Thanks Sorrento.
When I started looking at 205's I looked at a M16 that was a DOG, then I came across my Miami Blue 1.9 which is in lovely condition and I couldn't stop my hand reaching for my wallet!! I have since have considered a M16 again and whether I have made the right choice but am pretty sure I have. My car has been described by some "as like new" -so should be kept as original as possible!! But I am tempted by more power!!
The Puma site looks great and he certainly knows his stuff- if he would take the car and do everything I would be tempted today.
Has anyone had any major engine work on a 205 by someone they would recommend?

LAD Motorsport did some work on a friends 205 and were pretty good.

I have a tuned 8v in the fleet, it is fun but an expensive route for the power increases.

Agreed on stutter, time spent fiddling (particularly ignition timing, AFM, idle switch, ECU temp sensor) will generally improve it but there is no total cure. Tis a pretty dumb ECU (an analogue system) and it still uses an old mechanical distributer so don't expect the silky smooth control of a modern ECU. Combine this with sensor wear and the result is a few foibles. Lumpy idle and minor kangerooing being the bulk of them.

I've not heard such good things about them - I'm sure there is some more info in the dedicated Pug forums.

Am looking at buying an ekotec valve to stop the "kangaroo" effect.

No, do not go there...

How come? Heard they work good on pugs?

All they do is weaken your mixture, all pugs have that bit of a stutter but with a little tuning it can be helped, no need for a silly valve.
I took my 309 into a dealer to have it checked and tuned and i asked the tuner about it and he told me 'they all do that' so thats how it stayed.

My housemate has one fitted on his 16v clio and says it feels more responsive on throttle application, i'd just read that some people thought they were a good addition. If not though it will save me £50

Sorry willyp for using your topic as a discussion on ecotek valves haha.

Yeah, Ive just read the Pumaracing article that was linked earlier and they are who he is talking about with the 160hp engine myth, so maybe not such a good bet!

thirded, LAD are not a respected company from what ive heard seen and read.

all 8v 205s have the jerky thing, easiest answer is to slip the clutch in slow moving traffic, before long you wont even realise you had it

I found mine was much improved after a good clean out of the throttle body and having the timing done - I think there is a small airway in the throttle body which acts as a bleed at idle (or something like that!) and this is prone to getting blocked up.

When mine went in for a service they cleaned out bits and pieces and this definately helped stop the "kangooring!!".
But I remember reading in evo(front wheel drive special) something about a superchips fix that helps with this?

I think what it does is remove or reduce the fuel shut off that happens when you lift off the throttle, it makes the throttle a little less twitchy at low revs.

Puma would appear to know his thereoy, but his headwork I have seen on race engines isn't as good as some others. Xsport Racing are worth speaking to if you are looking for big 8v power, the have Will Gollops engine builder doing all the head work etc. Last 8v they built made 225 bhp and 160 lb/ft torque.

Yes they are doing my turbo'd 16v race car at the moment. And before that they built my 205 TT engine.

what you want to do kid is save a few pennys and get your cylinder head ported and gas flowed with a good mild cam fit nice new gaskets and good oil change and you'll be grinning every time you press the loud button

Really? You've seen my headwork on race engines i.e more than one race engine have you?

I know everyone I've ever built a race engine for and I'm wondering how you, whoever you are, have come to see the heads removed from the engines. Or are you just making this up?

And if you have ever seen race heads of mine, which I doubt, how qualified are you to evaluate them? Do you have a flowbench? Do you modify heads yourself? Have you any track record or history of success building engines for people?

So please do post the names of the people (more than one) whose race heads of mine you've seen and I'll check my records. If you can't and you've just made this up, i.e unsubstantiated defamation we might have to have a little chat.
