306 HDi Fuel filter

Part of the later 306HDi service is to drain the fuel filter (of water I presume).
My knowledge of diesels centres around the old stuff where the filter was an old canister right in front of your eyes when you lifted the bonnet.
Now you need to be a plumber with a degree in electronics and mastered in computer technology.
Where is the fuel filter located please.

Tis in the cylindrical housing pretty much bang in the middle of the engine bay. Remove the nasty plaggy cover and it should be easily visible.



Easy enough to swap, refer to the Haynes manual (updaged 306 one with Hdi added (ends 2001))... just be very clean and make sure no dust or particles get in post filter piping, and try do it in a garage with no drafts etc...

15 min job.

Ah ha, it's underneath the plstic cover, is it. Ta very much, Christmas job I think.
I didn't think the Haynes manual covered the HDi motor. If you know of one, please let me know.

There is an updated 306 Haynes manual, ends 2001 model cars, which covers the Hdi.

Well worth buying!

Post up if/when you do the cambelt though, the Haynes manual omits a few important cam belt cover bolt locations that had me pulling my hair out

Thanks but cam belt replacement will be a while yet. Car has 50k miles but belt replaced at dealer at around 36k.
'cos.....it went in for a service "C" (were intending to keep the service record going) with a funny rattle from the front. Turned out to be the bolt holding on the air con pump working loose and catching the pulley. Apparently the pulley needed replacing and the only way to get it all apart was to replace the t/belt and a water pump with a leak too. Service £250
T/belt etc £500
Hire car to get home (100 miles each way) £60
And I thought TVR services were expensive. Pass the Haynes manual. Will look out for the updted version, cheers.
