The Cup Pack was only a £200 option anyway...i think.

So it can't add that much to the value, come resale scratchchin

Yeah but as everyone appears to think a non-cup packed version handles like crap in comparison, then that will only make the none cup ones a lot harder to sell IMO.

Of course, they don't handle like crap, but if you read some of the reviews on the net, you might come to that conclusion.

Its not about resale value. Its that you were stupid to but a new 182 without Cup suspension! For the sake of saving £200? nuts

A non-cup suspension equipped 182 does'nt handle like crap - but one with it handles even better

The Cup suspension pack was indeed a £200 extra. I've just bought a 182 and have been looking at what's for sale since the beginning of January. The non-cup packed FF 182's do not sell quickly, and I reckon that you would buy a non-cup packed car for a grand less than one with the packs fitted. I personally viewed a June 2004 racing blue car with 13,600 miles but no Cup packs on it on Sunday which the owner offered me for £7000. If anyone wants to buy it give me a ring at work on 01978 663055 and I'll tell you where it is.

Jeez, that's a lot of car for the money, cup pack or not. My 172 Cup was £6250 at the end of last June and a good price at the time, that's an July 2003 and has 28.5k miles on the clock at that time.

You should see what 172 Cups are going for now!

Even better value for money these days

Don't like to think about it too much, 350wedge paid less than I did for mine for a newer car with more mods.

Such is the way of things, but either way its worth what I paid for it and is very enjoyable, the fast I've got an appreciating car in the garage helps offset any loss too

The mods on 350wedges car probably did'nt add to its resale value to be fair.

It does'nt bother me very much. I'm keeping mine for a few years and it did most of its depreciation before I bought it (50% of original value).

I'll admit mine doesn't have them. But in my defence i didn't buy mine new. And I also wasn't aware that there was such a thing when I did. Needless to say I was pretty pissed off when I found out.

But since then, I have read that there aint much difference. I've also read that both setups can be improved upon very easily with just eibach springs, better still with decent dampers, and much better with coilovers, so i'm not too bothered.

My purchase was an impulse choice. But I am an impulsive person.

Which is exactly what I was saying... that you can buy a non cup one for £1000 less and then stick some eibachs on it for £150 and it will handle better than the cup packed model. Big saving

Besides which, if I got my wheels done in anthracite and told someone it was a cup pack model, nobody would know the difference TBH. A simple spray on the wheels and I would gain £1k at resale time

At the end of the day the anthracite wheels ultimately look better. Yes it was only a £200 mod but imo its worthwhile buying one with.

Just my 2ps worth, 182s are excellent! I love mine to bits!

Picking it up Wednesday afternoon, they said we'll have to wash it etc, but i felt saying dont bother it wont be clean by the time it gets home

More excited than any of the previous cars i've owned, also it comes with the cup packs, checked it out just to make sure, i dont think they realised this either so although not a bargin still think for what it is it'll be get value for money...

So are there any clio/fwd novice track days in the south which i could go along too in the near future?

Cheers guys

MSV run a number of half and full day novice track days at Brands Hatch, they are supposed to be really good and start from the basics such as car preperation. Quite good value as I recall too.

EVO do a couple of beginner days each season which are worth watching out for, Renaultsport.co.uk might be worth a look too.

Your closest track would likely be Goodwood, which tends to be expensive, Thruxton doesn't offer many track days, so Castle Combe could be another option, otherwise you need to travel that big further.

They're good value I've heard as Renault subsides them quite heavily (I think!). And there is a usually chance to drive some new Renault Sport models.

I'm thinking of doing a driver control course near Bracknell that another Cup owner recommended. He did it to learn the car a bit before he started doing track days I believe

I'd also heavily recommend CarLimits for exposure to track handling without the chance to hit armco or walls.

I did one as a brush-up at the start of last year and it was great fun, the only chance I've ever had to really push the car to and beyond its limits to see what happens.

The courses are run at North Weald airfield just off the M11 near Stansted.

Cheers Tripps thumbup

I'll definately look into that. I could do with some tuition - as a Clio crumpling incident involving a pile of tyres on an airfield the other week showed paperbag

Ooops, what happened? I'm sure you were just pushing the car to the limits ala Schumacher

We'll have to get the PH Renaultsport massive together for a track day, would be good fun to be among likeminded RSers.

Pushing it to the limit ala Takuma Sato perhaps....

Lost the back end going into a chicane. Ended up sliding broadside through the tyres marking out the chicane, destoying my splitter and denting the rear 3/4 panel. Not my proudest moment.

A RS Clio PH get together is a great idea! At a track even better yes I hope to start doing regular track days in the next couple of months, so hopefully should'nt be too difficult to organise.

Do you go to any PH meets or hoons? I was on the Northhants hoon last Sunday, chasing the Diablo cloud9

It happens to us all at some point, its the risk of playing on track. I span on diesel at 120+ last year while at Snetterton, after doing three or four 360s the car settled then (which I can never quite figure out) started going backwards at speed, towards a tyre wall eek Thankfully grass and gravel scrubbed off enough speed and we didn't hit it

Other than that I've been pretty lucky, boiled brake fluid and few times and overheated discs, the closest other incident was when I grass-cutting at Enfield airfield, managing to find the only solid thing hidden in the grass around the track - thankfully again not hitting anything.

I try to do most of them in our area (SE London and Kent) and have done a lot of the Surrey runs in the past, will have to get up to a Northants run at some point though.

Cool. Hopefully bump into you at a meet in the coming months then

The Northants run was great fun despite the very wet conditions. I'll definately be at the next one
