2.1 TD vs 2 litre HDI, is one engine really a huge improvement on the other?, i know the older TD is less advanced but it would be easier to work on yourself i assume and they produce the same amount of power, are there advantages and disadvantages to both?.

You can easily remap the HDi to produce a lot more power without hurting the fuel consumption that much. As well as the newer engine will give you probably 5-10mpg more on average.

HDi's have hugely improved fuel consumption over the older DTurbo's, although they're not easy to work on.
