I can confirm these cars are quicker than a Honda NSX but im guessing the guy had an automatic
Did you have a supercharger or turbocharger, and what brand? What about the warranty implications?
Neither. A guy in an early 3.0 didn't want to let me pass him (I wasn't racing him, just in a hurry) He tried but I was quicker than him and he didn't like it ! Think it was an auto though....

But the auto still does 0-100 in ~14 seconds?

That doesn't make the Clio faster than a NSX smile

It did on the day and thats what counts ! If you look at the report below, the early cars were heavy and slow (by todays standards) especially with an auto box. I would be confident at out-performing one (not the later 3.2's !) unless there is a very long straight piece of road. The guy I encountered only beat me when we got onto the A2 and I let him go, I was not racing him. Although Im not a fan of the NSX, too long an narrow for my eye, Im not slagging them off, but the fact is, early cars are now not very fast.

"The NSX was originally available with a 3.0-litre V6 with 260bhp and a 0-62mph time of 7.3 seconds, however this was replaced in 1998 by a 3.2-litre V6 with 20bhp more while the five-speed gearbox was replaced by a six-speed version. The 3.0-litre V6 was actually kept on but was only available with an automatic transmission known as F-Matic".

Still yet to drive one of these 200 cups. Do they tick the following driver's (hot hatch) car essentials (for me anyway):

1 - quick steering with a playful rear end
2 - razor sharp throttle, no dead pedal travel
3 - quick, short throw precise gear change
4 - rev hungry engine
5 - low seat height, adjustable steering wheel and pedals that make heel n toe a joy
6 - rock hard springs with just enough dampening for fast road use

You would be the best judge if they meet your likes but I would guess yep, yep, yep, yep, nope, yep.

Also have a look at Evo group test:

1 - quick steering with a playful rear end........... A. yes and if you really push, yes

2 - razor sharp throttle, no dead pedal travel....... A. No. A bit disappointing at low revs

3 - quick, short throw precise gear change........... A. Yes and no. Needs practice

4 - rev hungry engine................................ A. Once the revs are up its good, real good

5 - low seat height, adjustable steering wheel and pedals that make heel n toe a joy............. A. Not a low seat by any means unfortunately, s/wheel adjusts ok, pedals pretty good, quite close

6 - rock hard springs with just enough dampening for fast road use.....A. A big yes, cup chassis a must. Very little body roll, sharp turn-in with mild oversteer if pushed hard, amazing grip.

These cars drive better when driven fast. Not good for pottering about.

Spent the day going a bit mad with some vinyl I ordered off ebay...

I now have;
Carbon Fibre (look) center consol and dash trims
and as mine is the Cup with the unpainted black plastic bits, I have now wrapped them in Gloss Black Vinyl (mirrors/door handles/door strips/RenaultSport Bullets/Front and Rear badges).

I know, I know! I just couldn't stop OK! (Oh I have also done the ring bit and badge on the steering wheel gloss black, looks nice actually)

Also have some RS stickers on order... STILL haven't arrived yet!

I'll give it all a few days before deciding what stays and what goes... that that stays will eventually be painted.

I'll get some photos up tomorrow.

I'm looking at maybe buying a brand new cup soon with recaros, aircon, and White paint. Roughly what should I be paying ? Are these heavily discounted? I heard they can be had for as little as £13k?

Hi TOM,

With that spec, now you should be paying circa £18k for a 200 Cup-last year there where some very stupid deals on these from a couple of the bigger groups. Recaros are £1k, air £575 and white paint £205 so they push it up to that level. That figure is with discount. There really is very little to play with in the profit margin of these now, circa £900 actually. The good news is that Renaulsport prices havn't gone up since last year i.e. VAT etc, so the net result is probably about the same and lack of discounts theoretically mean better residuals. PCP bonuses have gone on the car too, so don't expect anymore for financing. The best option at the moment IMO, if you can cope with the higher payments, is 0% finance over 3 years (and still no deposit-but you can put some in if you want to) you may even be able to squeeze up to 42/48 months if the dealer likes you hehe However, don't expect a penny off the list price if you go for 0%

Drivethedeal offer just over £900 off, although I don't know about lead time

Thanks for that info - very helpful. Pretty expensive in terms of trim level & quality - will definitely make up for it in smiles though. Bit cautious of the recaros as there are many examples of heavily worn side bolsters after not many miles. The one I sat in at the Geneva motorshow suffered from this also. The servicing package is also very appealing.

Lead time ok, Renault UK managed to get a bit more production for 2011 (the UK was actually the biggest RS market in Europe last year) just goes to show doesn't it, the stupidity of selling a car for a net profit of £0. Of course, there is a bit of back end money but this year, that is dependant on volume targets AND PPU (profit per unit). The thing is, RS cars should have 'a buying experience' attached to the buying process. Now I can understand using a drivethedeal type website for mainstream stuff but for probably only a few hundred pounds more you can have a dealership experience that for once, you can really enjoy.
