The poll is wrong. For London you need a G-Whizz................................

If you're happy with the fuel bill, and providing you source a decent one, I suspect that either would be fine.

I've used a child seat in the Shadow 11 (albeit in the 80's, but children were the same size then smile), easy access to the seats, plenty of boot space for all the bits and pieces. I can't comment on the Corniche as I haven't tried it for rear access with a child seat, but I always found it easier to get to a child seat in a 4-door car, rather then leaning in to the rear of a 2-door. I did it with a MB 450SLC, but it wasn't as easy.

Nice Exeter blue late Shadow 2, for a daily I don't think you need to spend 20k

If it is going to be a daily driver, and not a weekend rolling restauration project, then he needs to buy the best car he can afford. If you can show me a 10k Shadow suitable as a non-fault daily, I will buy it immediately.

With respect I have been dealing in Rolls/Bentley for many years....you dont have to spend £20K for a nice usable Shadow 2........£10K will buy you a reasonable car, £15K will buy you a belter, as usual with these cars you need to sort the wheat from chaff.

I fully trust you. So, how many "belters" can you offer me for 15 grand?

Thought you were looking for a Turbo R/ Arnage/Brooklands?

Indeed but I wouldnt say no to a top condition Shadow which would make no trouble as a daily driver, for 15k.

Trying not to hijack this thread, but have you actually looked Rushmore, or do you want it gift wrapped?
There are some very nice shadows around for £10-15k and they make great family cars. £20k will get you something closer to concours but it really depends how you want to define "usable".
Just look in the advertiser from the Rrec for evidence.

Usable means top notch to me: as new pretty much. It has to be 100% reliable and trouble free. Maintenance budget is not my worry.

But good to hear i dont have to go for the common full fat range rover.
If the other half agrees, i'll be looking for a Corniche (bentley if i'm lucky). It should be quite alright in terms of space, just hope the seat is easily bent/pushed forward.

Corniche in the condition your require for 20k will be much harder to find than a shadow 2.

I'm sure you will but get an independent inspection done by a marque expert.

Buy a nice car, they have bags of character, you will love it.

Good luck in your search

I caveat that I know nothing about the car, and have no connection with the seller, but this seems to fit with your plans and budget:

Personally I think you'll find they are a little cumbersome. Don't get me wrong they are great cars and we have had a Shadow 11 in the family for over 20 years with still just over 40K miles on the clock. I think you'd find a Bentley Turbo R a more enjoyable experience. I know I would. Just still can't sell it to the missus. She had an 86 500SL 107 series for a while. Two things killed it. One was those crap heater valves that bled hot air in the summer and the door closing on her shin whilst getting into the car. They don't call them the panzer waggon for nothing.

Despite the 70s brown, I quite like this too:

My '76 copes fine with long journeys and regular summer use, but the later car would almost certainly be better as a daily that is parked on the street.

Cheers,

Andy

Selling it to Madame is indeed my biggest worry: she too has a 1989 R107 300SL in black with red full leather and abs loves it. No way we are selling.

Turbo R is out of the question: Silver Shadow II or Corniche have a lot more style in my view.

And they just don't do it for me at all.

Bear in mind I'm 37 but look quite young (easily early 30s) - so the car really must be a Classic...or it'll look like I'm driving my dad's car!
