We have just collected a V8 diesel this week, mainly for my wife but also too be used 3/4 times a year for skiing. We have been Bentley owners since 1998. This was a very last minute purchase after being badly let down by Land Rover on a LWB Range Rover we ordered back in September, and frankly the customer service has been so appalling my wife and I decided Land Rover were not worthy of our 120k.
First impressions are good, it really is an outstanding car, beautifully made, refined and very little difference from the W12 we had for a few weeks last year on loan in terms of performance.
I think the styling is a little controversial but its all personal preference and we are more interested in refinement as most go our journeys in this will be long distance. At motorway speeds it feels quieter then our Mulsanne.
We have just covered 200 miles in it yesterday and averaged 34.2mpg, the build quality put's Land Rover too shame.
Its a big car, loads of space, 7 seats, comfortable and the dealership have been superb and appreciative of our spend.

One of my mates drives these for work.
Was hilarious watching him boot it up the road. Don't think I've ever seen a disel 4x4 move so fast haha

I know the Bentayga has nicer interior and quieter engine but do you not think the vehicle its based on - Audi Q7 SQ7 , is better looking , has more class and integrity ?

Interesting you use the word 'integrity', I do understand what you mean as the current VAG program of extensive platform sharing to the point where all the cars of the same body type look very similar and have a very similar feel inside and out is really quite cynical. For the premium Bentayga, the interior and exterior should feel special in both finish and design (as in the architecture of the space / shapes), and whilst, as everyone notes, the finish is exemplary, the extensive platform sharing that goes on makes the latter objective almost impossible as they cannot design a cabin (note I am talking about the space and design, not the quality of finish) that is significantly different to the underlying base model and as such feels quite 'normal' inside, nothing unique about it.

It is the same as with property, you see it all the time - an old modest house now worth a lot due to massive land appreciation, the new owners / developer tries to upgrade it with extensions, open plan area, wonderful furnishings and flooring - but without starting from scratch and making a purpose designed luxury house, the space itself will always feel compromised - the halls are not proportionate, the ceilings are too low, etc, etc.

I am not trying to say the Bentayga is a bad car, of course it's a great vehicle - though the exterior was a bit of a disaster and platform sharing alone is no excuse for that (just look at how good the current Continental GT looks). However, interior design is one of the things that interests me most about luxury cars, and so I was extremely disappointed by the lack of imagination / genericness of the Bentayga interior space. Aware for many people that won't be an issue, especially as the finish itself is good.

you cant stand the current Q7 ? I hated the last model but the current model is inoffensive looking and huge improvement on old. Cant see how anyone can have strong feelings against them.

the SQ7 is ok but i just do not like the slab sided look on it. Mind you its a good job we all see things differently.

Hmmm, not sure i could ever say any VW Group product and the word "integrity" within the same sentence (unless you put the word "no" first).

are you referring to dieselgate or just the company overall ?

I am not a fan of the Bantayga because it is just too expensive. I was in at the Bentley Garage in Hamilton and they had a Bantayga and new Range Rover parked next to each other. To my eye's the Range Rover was better looking but the Bentayga had a nicer interior. However the Range Rover was half the price but I doubt it is half the car.

Divide small and go around all!

1 Bentayga = 1 Range Rover & 1 pre owned McLaren.

I really hope Rolls Royce don't build a SUV.
