My 'beloved' heap has blown its head gasket - cylinder B4 was full of water frown It's a late car, 1998 and turbocharged. It is currently sat in SPecialist cars garage but they can't do it for a few week and are quoting 5-6thousand which seems a lot! I get the impression that they are busy and would rather not do it.

So anyone know of a GOOD repairer in the Torquay/Exeter area?

Thanks in advance,

Dave.

it is a minimum 35 hour job and if 20 yrs old and no work done in there before, allow 50 hours. At a specialist garage I paid £80 + VAT = £96 That's almost 5K with no parts (included resurfacing heads). I paid another 5K for parts, included rebuilt turbo, radiator, water pump, new t stat etc. Many gaskets, hosepipes etc. need to be changed on a turbo engine to do the job properly. I think if you pay cheap labour you will get someone not familiar with that engine, so I had mine done properly ( 97 turbo r ) a long way from me ( Crondall, Surrey, I'm in Suffolk ) Many have had the job done cheaper and the saving must have been cheaper and fewer parts replaced and cheaper labour. I want to keep and use the car so paid a reputable specialist. I did contact garages that have done the work a lot cheaper, they didn't reply, presumably they too did not want the job again at the cheap price.

I can't praise the guys in Crondall (Phantom Motors) enough, mines a GT but they know their stuff on the full Bentley range from new to vintage.
