Using VCDS I managed to gain security access to the ECU. With that I managed to remove the existing detected sensors and set the expected pressures to the values I wanted (2.4 bar front and 2.1 bar rear). I then drove the car for 30 minutes, it recognised 3 sensors but not the 4th so I looked at the MVB (measuring value blocks) from the ECU which showed 3 sensors but unfortunately it doesn’t put them in the correct locations until it has all 4! So….. If you then look at MVB 016 you can see which sensor last talked to the ECU so while monitoring MVB 016 I let the tyres down in turn until each sensor communicated with the ECU and thus identified which one wasn’t working. I then replaced the faulty sensor and within 10 minutes of driving the warning light went out and the TPMS system is showing everything it should.
Most of the info is available online but not in a single place so I can only take credit for piecing the bits of info together to a workable solution.
It seems people shy away from resetting the TPMS ECU but it has a factory reset option (adaptation map 1 (I think it was)) and test function (adaptation map 17) which is very useful.
Security access to the ECU is gained with code 10896.
It is also possible to identify if the outside temperature sensor is causing an issue as that reports to MVB 018, although looking at the dash should also identify that!
I replaced the TPMS sensors with Autel ones programmed for the car from TPMS warehouse.
