A good friend of mine has a classic Rolls, but the previous owner, in the mid 80s, put a, then new, nasty modern radio in the car and it looks awful.

Now I remember seeing an advert in Classic & Sports Cars (or similar) a while back for a firm who put modern workings in a radio of a suitable vintage.

Does anyone have a link/contact details for a company that supplies these?

TIA smile

I think you might be referring to these guys, www.vintagewireless.co.uk, but the site seems to be unavailable at the moment?

This looks like the right thing though: http://www.radios.freeserve.co.uk/

Its a 1963 RR Sliver Cloud III Flying Spur smile

The old boy I spoke to is going to supply a Radiomobile 920T (original fitment afaik) with FM radio innards.

Not cheap by today's standards, but its worth it (especially as Im not paying for it hehe) to bin the horrible digital thing in there at the moment.

I have a Bentley S3 (standard, not conti unfortunately!)
I had an original model radiomobile 920 fitted in the dash, which I found on ebay after a couple of months searching, with a modern radio / Cd fitted into the glovebox operable by remote control. Best of both worlds, as the original looks the part but the modern sounds good, although I'm no audiophile!
The speakers were concealed within the front door cubby holes (in the 'wall' thus not up taking any space) and under the rear parcel shelf (with holes cut in for the sound to come through, but the original cloth over the top). Hence completely hidden!

its a good car just to drive and use and not worry about rain or stonechips

All our Classic Royces had the period radio equipement in them. The only car that I upgraded to a new stereo was my 80s Mercedes Coupe, because the old Becker one gave up the ghost.
