hi there...new person.... for the last 5yrs ive had a car and driver and when i first decided to go that route i actually inherited a s63...very fast /lovely interior/all the gadgets ...but i also found it common and uncomfortable in the back..everytime it turned up i expected to see a green mini cab disc on the back window....so at the beggining of this year i wanted something else..i looked at some very nice 2009 arnages and even the new mulsanne..but there was a 6mns(longer as it turns out) waiting list etc..so i went next door and sat in a ghost..ready in 2 months(they make them to order)..my driver ..who had previously done the old royces chauffer course(they used to come and inspect your car!!)went to the factory regularly for updates etc..2 mns after ordering it.it was delivered..ive done about 5000 miles in town/motorway and although i havent actually driven it yet...it is the most wonderful car ive ever sat in the back of

I have been reading this post with interest Bentley V Jaguar V Aston Martin
I have all 3
I started of with a RR Shadow 1 LWB this was a fun car if you stayed under 50
Wife didn’t like driving it so it was chopped for a Turbo R this was a totally different car all the silly things sorted out and did what it said on the tin we know have a RT and had it for the last 3 years
And love it for what it is a lovely car to drive lots of Space. And the wow bit as well
But best of all it is old and new they had a good look at other technology and used it which makes the car reliable and carried on with the Hand Built bit as the Shadows
We went for this car because I didn’t like the back end of the Arrange
As for the VW Bentley! I won’t comment on the look as some times I like it and other times I don’t
I think it is a personnel thing
As for it being a VW well if we look at Jaguar
They was all ways short of cash never getting a car right and all ways on strike
When Ford took over every body went mad complaining that they were not real Jags
Well they turned the company around yes we had the X-Type and the S-type with 70% of parts taken from other cars at Ford and then we had the XJ / XK
They never made any money on theas car only on the X and S but at long last we had reliability and things didn’t fall off
We have a XF on order for next month and can’t wait for it to arrive
I have a XJS Convertible V12 this car was 6 months old when I got it
LUKLY I AM AN OLD FASHOND Jag trained Engineer and have had the fun putting them all back together when they fell apart
In the 70’s throw to mid 90’s they had problems and the Germen car made its mark for reliability good fuel consumption and where fast but very boring they where all the same
This I bealev to be the same with the Bentley as I me in the trade I have herd Frome some other Garage owners that work on Bentley and RR they wont work on them and say that when there out of warranty there trouble and expensive on parts
As for Aston Martin well I have a Vanquish S 2007
A very Nice Car she is all so a Ford just look at the bits and bobs all taken from the Jaguar Bins
Gearbox is out of a Viper Brakes well you have a choice British or German build quality rubbish
Warranty rubbish this you have to put up with as it is a butiful car I am lucky as I can look after her my self
If I had to have only one car what would I have that could do every thing from shopping to fast enjoyable driving I suppose it would have to be a new Bentley W12 but keep it under warranty
If I had to get rid of 2 of my cars what would I keep the XJS

funny that...I was thinking of buying an XJS sometime in the next 6 months. I have always like the shape and there is no other car like it. Short of space in the back and, I would guess, maybe liable to breakdown? I have an Omega at the moment and thought of a change.
Thanks for the comments so far folks...It really is interesting how the cars have developed over the years, out of necessity more than anything else.

oddly, I hve an XJ-S as well as the Bentley, but it always seems to be in a bit of an identity crisis - too soft to be a sportscar, but too old-school to be a decent drive. it's getting stripped and converted to manual soon for use predominantly on the track.

would love an early DB7 - it seems to be an XJ-S with all the faults corrected.

if I had to keep just one of my cars, it would probably be the Lotus Carlton, or possibly the Holden Commodore.

shame they never made a decent XJS.....i mean, if it was as reliable as the German cars, it would definately be worth buying....nothing looks like it on the road....and ride is superb..

Sorry wont get into this but my XJS v12 has don just over 100000 and has only been on a recovery truck twice in its life
Ounces when a she went in for a service at Jag and they put the wrong plugs in and she wouldn’t start and this summer when I went to Bristol the Diff got a whine and I had her recovered home
I have all ways said that a car is only as good as the Tec looking after it
As for suspension as standard they are soggy but I changed al the shocks for spacks and never looked back all so changed the bushes and steering rack valve this made the car in to a car that would do what you wanted and if your going to put yours on the track then you will have to change them as well
