MINI chassis number help

Hi folks looking for a MINI chassis number and wondering aswell if this is the same as the VIN ?

Got an light on in the car that says there is a steering fault. its an 07 MINI cooper. Had a mechanic look at it and he says its a fault with the steering column. Anyway he suggested i check MINI to see if there is any system updates due. It ahsnt been updated since i got the car in 09. So anyway i need the chassis number for that and was wondering where it is on the car ? was also wondering what kind of number im looking, how many digits etc ?

It's on the V5, vin number.

And the bottom left corner of the front screen viewed outside, or the black label in the drivers door shut by the latch hoop, Mini need the last seven of seventeen characters, ie: TD12345
