I've noticed my 05 Cooper's temperature gauge has been fluctuating between being at max and at a normal level bang in the middle of late - it'll go up to max, then dip a little, then go back up, then drop back down, then creep up, it's all over the place.

The engine fan, meanwhile, has been staying on for 5-10 minutes after turning the ignition off. And the interior fans are taking ages to start blowing hot air.

I've read about a bit online and seen various issues mooted but the one that seems most frequent is the thermostat - is it likely to be that or could it be an issue with the radiator or something else?

Since posting this, my Mini has had:-

- New radiator pipe as one had a big hole in it
- New radiator
- New water pump
- New head gasket

And finally, FINALLY, its coolant loss and overheating issues have gone away.

Touch wood.
