So did the lci include anything apart from the annoying BMW tradition of adding LED indicators which frankly is wearing a bit thin?
Changes to the lights, changes to the base spec, changes to the packs but very significant price increases. No big amount of innovation from what I can tellThat's a lot of wedge for a MINI.

Its not hard to hit £30K in a JCW, and even with 10% discount usually available, you're all of a sudden in to the realms of a M140i or a Golf R, so you'd have to really really want a MINI to spend that. All very well if someone does - each to their own and all that, but its a lot of money....

They're starting to arrive at dealers en masse now. Sister is due to collect hers at the weekend if the DVLA sort out her reg!
I look forward to seeing it in the flesh, but I'm beginning to come round to the rear lights and I really like the new badge. The Piano Black exterior is excellent but I'm annoyed it doesn't black out the chrome strip on the grille... Never mind.
That looks really good, I regret not going for the Piano Black exterior on mine because I find the chrome looks really tacky. The chrome makes the front/rear lights/front grille look comedy massive, the piano black trim hides it so well and it really suits a dark coloured car for me. I re-specced my JCW cabrio as it is now, and it came out at £37k

Yes, but that's inflation. My first Mini in 2008 was 15500, similar spec now is 18K but inflation adjusted is 20463 using this site. And that's without factoring in the change in VAT rate from 15% to 20%.That's a lot of wedge for a MINI.
One problem is the "austerity measures" used to suppress wages, so prices feel a lot higher now.
Low interest rates have let car sales shift onto manageable monthly payments, but how long can that last?

This is why I ended up with a GT86. I've had 4 MINIs, and always wanted a new JCW, but when put in the position to buy I couldn't justify that money once even modestly spec'd. One day, maybe.cerb4.5lee said:

Thanks I can see this becoming quite a popular option from the factory (I think it was £100, probably one of the more reasonably priced options available), but I think you can get the parts required from the parts desk if you wanted to do them yourself?GiveItSomeWellie said:

I think it looks great. It's certainly something I'm going to look into then thanks. cerb4.5lee said:

Hmmm. Ok but my point in particular was what else even say £30k can buy you, let alone £37kOne problem is the "austerity measures" used to suppress wages, so prices feel a lot higher now.

It seems the MCS Convertible we pick up soon was 32k new .... its just about 2 years old and we are paying 17k for it, given the dealer probably has 2k in it thats a massive loss to its first owner. To me thats Ford Mustang money or even F Type, Boxster etc ...
I do like the black trim but for me it only works on certain colours. I'm going to look at retro fitting the union jack lights on ours.

Totally fair point, but i've owned an M135i and although blisteringly fast (by my standards) i found it numb and surprisingly unrewarding to drive. Golf R (and S3) marginally better, and quicker, but just a bit sterile. I've owned 6 GTI's over the years too. My wife's Mini JCW Countryman is much slower, but never fails to put a smile on my face - and you can use all the horses most of the time. Its not hard to hit £30K in a JCW, and even with 10% discount usually available, you're all of a sudden in to the realms of a M140i or a Golf R, so you'd have to really really want a MINI to spend that. Eyewatering retail price on this fully loaded JCW - picked it up last June for the wife on a 3 year PCP.
£3200 down and around £300 a month. GFV after 3 years and 36,000 miles is £26k... go figure!?
Was cheaper than an equivelent MCS with less toys. I know most P'Hers will curse this car, but it's a blast to drive and has more than enough space for a family of 4 (+luggage). It's certainly one of the better cars she's owned and I can't see us getting bored of it, which is rare coming from me.

I've got an LCI JCW hatch on order. Now worrying that I should have waited in case there is an engine upgrade. I know there have been rumours, but nothing definite. However, JCW production will stop from May for 12 months according to dealer, so would have had a long wait. He is also adamant that engine refresh is unlikely and has heard nothing about this! I am also a bit miffed that there appears to have been a reduction in exhaust noise for LCI (emissions regs.)as well as the fact that we can no longer get the Pro exhaust. Hope I don't regret my decision! Good thing is I am getting a great discount as well as good trade in deal. Can't have it all I guess.

Is it possible to get a discount on these new 2018 Minis? It must be, you got one! But was it because it was the more top end of the market - a JCW one - ie more money? How about a new petrol Cooper with a couple of packs on it? Any chance for me?

10% off or so should be viable from your main dealer
Well, took a new LCI demo out today for a couple of hours and then ended up buying one - so a good day all round. Emerald Grey, five door. JCW Sport kit and Pepper pack and a few bits inside. You can't get the piano black exterior light trim on a Cooper unless they fit it at the dealer pre-collection so that is what we have ordered. You can then have the grille wrapped in black ...
Looking forward to picking it up!
