easy enough to swap the dampers left to right and see if the noise changes ~20 mins

Have uploaded a couple of not-so-helpful pics but I hope it at least gives a little perspective. It's tough to see but I can fit a finger between the inside of the bar and the spring (perhaps two fingers was an exaggeration). First is right side (creaky/clunky), last one is the left (barely creaky, if at all).

I can't see an issue there, even if one finger behind where the bracket is welded to the bar, no reason for it to foul
