After looking for ages, I've found and bought a mint 2004 John Cooper Works. What a car - fantastic handling, very sharp turn-in and I love the whine of the supercharger!

I've also treated myself to a very cool leather FlipFob key case from Richbrook. https://richbrook.co.uk/product/flipfob-leather-ke...
(The Mini key is not listed but the part number is 7700.37)

TBH the whine on a standard JCW R53 is quite tame. Because of the way the JCW airbox is engineered. It has a flap which is closed until the car reaches 4,500rpm. I bought a JCW airbox from a clueless breaker the other day for £50, not because I wanted it but because I've just sold it for £175.
I have an Orranje Stealth airbox/cold air intake. Have look at this Youtube. I can tell that that MINI has loads of other mods but hey. now that is proper whine.

Don't get me wrong, looks a cracking car. I drove a JCW the other day. Quick, nice but terribly civilised!!

That car is pre-facelift so might not have the JCW airbox as it may be the 200bhp JCW, not the 210bhp

Correct!

Is the correct JCW airbox available new still?
Is it an easy fit?
Will its fitment alone lift bhp to 210?

Thanks.

only in the jcw kit, easy fit, and no, you need the injectors and 210 map, there was a 210 kit with just these things, unsure if this is available but the airbox kit no.

the point of jcw wasn't to wake the street up, it was to make the car quicker, so civilised is ideal haha. The exhaust they use is still the best exhaust for Mini up to 300hp being the quietest but nicest sounding even without the catalyst fitted or mated to aftermarket manifolds,

nice car, if altering it try to take your time reading up on the right bits imo.

Dunno - but pricey if it is.
Yes.
No.

Try Orranje for their airbox - basically a copy of the JCW without the price. The main theory is to draw air in from behind the scuttle as well as from the front of the car, so there's an additional whole at the back of the airbox

Did a broadly similar thing to mine and the sound difference is quite pronounced!

Flexy from the usual inlet to the (opened up) top entry of the airbox, additional hole behind into the scuttle and then opened up the bottom hole, installed Pipercross cone filter (with baffle to keep most of the dust etc off) and then additional flexy down to the throttle body.

Thanks guys. My initial thoughts are its not worth the cost/aggro for 10bhp.

If you like whine, try driving it with no cabin filter (under/behind the glovebox) biggrin

Probably still available new. Yes easy to fit. The 210 has its own map, so no.

I bought a JCW airbox the other day for £50, with the cut back panel. And the 380cc Blue JCW injectors, £40. And the JCW exhaust £200. Merc breaker - didn't know what they had. Sold the airbox for £175. I have an Orranje Stealth. Might replace my Milltek with the JCW exhaust. As COrB says, very civilised. Probably sell the 380 injectors. Getting it dyno and read to see if it will benefit from them or not.
