Weird damage

A colleague pointed out this damaged rear 3/4 today! No idea how this could have happened (i park under a tree so the world biggest acorn maybe?)



Have any other MINI owners had this part of the C pillar damaged and any idea's the cost to fix? I don't think it will hurt to leave it for the time being as any water that gets through it just drains away the same as the water that gets in the gap to the boot.

Having checked the forecast and seeing that there is 70% of heavy rain tonight, i have selotaped some plastic over the gap just in case, as where the plastic covers the raised edge on the left, i can't be 100% sure that water can't get somewhere it shouldn't down there!

Those panels clip on, pains me to suggest it but it looks to me like someone tried to lever your one off and failed.

Really? That would be a very specific theft! There would be easier and more profitable things to nick! And its not like you would gain access to the car from there!

I would have thought a rouge football, or careless passerby with a ladder / pole etc. would have been more likely.

Do you actually think that scrotes who want something but can't/don't want to pay for it will stop short of taking someone else's stuff?

I suppose not! But in a small village where i live, you would be pretty unlucky to have another MINI owner who also happened to have damaged this particular panel that is difficult to damage, who also happens to be a (terrible) thief!

Do other people not living in your village never visit/pass through/think "hmmmmm, I wonder if someone living there has a mini like mine" then?

The obvious likelihood is it won't be a local as someone could recognise the damage/put 2 + 2 together etc.
