I was looking at a 2012 R56 which was advertised as a One, but it had a Cooper badge on the boot (obvs an easy thing to fit) but it seemed pretty sharp to drive, and I wondered what exactly the differences are. Are there any trim or under bonnet differences between the two that would be there to be seen?
Also is the power difference a remap or are there mechanical differences between the 98 and 122bhp engines??

Thanks /

I think that when new a standard spec 2012 Cooper would come with 15 inch 5 hole Alloy wheels . A standard spec One would have steel wheels.

There may be some chrome trim on the Cooper as well ( not sure ).

The both use the same 1.6 engine , I am guessing that the one is just down rated.

If you go see it the V5 will tell you.

Problem is that all the chrome and wheels could be optioned on a One until it's identical to a Cooper.

Far as I'm aware, the First, One and Cooper all share the same engine and ancillaries but with different maps.

You should look at the sticker on the passenger B pillar (UK RHD, bottom right as you open the door), as this lists the model, engine number, paint codes, etc. Check any discrepancies against the V5.

Also take the VIN and number plate then drop into a dealer, they should be able to tell you what the original options were and if it's still under a service plan (there was a rarely taken 8-year TLC package).
