I have two pristine black lounge leather front seats with the JCW-only red piping. Fronts only though as from my R58 Coupe...

I have no idea about packaging them up though even if you wanted a deal on them - I'm in NI and they are very heavy.

If only I had found you a year ago lol
Couldn't find lounge leather with red piping in NI and had to settle for a white piping set and courier them in from GB.... on the plus side they were a full Clubman set laugh

Okay, so leather looks to be sorted, 2 questions however.

Retro fitting heated fronts, I am assuming the loom is all the same so wiring is in place, and I will need the switch panel with the heated buttons, but does it need any BCM coding?

And fronts look to be red piped, I can only get cream piped rears, can you recolour the piping or will they need breaking down & re piping an an upholsterers? (TBH I may just live with it)

Hi Steve,

I can't comment on whether the loom will be there for you hook up the seat heating elements if you car does not have seat heating installed already....

If you look under the seats you will see the loom come out of the carpet floor up into a yellow 'slide' connector under the seat. There is a black slider on these which when pulled out allows the individual connectors to be detached from one another. These can then be slid out of the yellow holder into their own separate connectors. They are all slightly dfferent shapes so they can only slide back in again in the correct sequence.

There are two seat heating elements per front seat and these have one brown and one black plastic connector. However, there is a little 'sub' loom that goes into a little black box that then feeds the heating elements. You will need those sub looms as I am pretty sure they won't be present.

As for colouring the white piping to red - that's easier than going from red to white I think! I once saw some leather dyes/paint being used to spruce up telly and they changed the seat colour completely. A trimmer may be able to help, or a search of the net.

Good luck.

So rear seats arrived today, will get them fitted shortly. Unfortunately no centre rear head rest, will have to start serching on ebay for one or recover the cloth one. Front seats from Gary will drop in a few weeks so will sort a new switch panel for the heated seats and start working out the wiring required in the mean time

Great thread!

My dad had a late R55 Clubman Cooper S (Bond Street I think) when they were pretty new and it was a terrific car, wish I’d bought it off him he sold it. Are they really not very reliable? I had been thinking very vaguely about replacing my e46 touring with one sometime in the future...

Not unreliable, just a bit higher maintenance than modern stuff.

SCRW - on you rebuild did you replace any of the suspension parts? Mine is due some control arm bushings but unsure if it’s worth poly bushing?

Interested in this, as my display panel is scratched, and seen a few people have changed theirs along with their headunit, I don't mind the Harmon kardon set up sound wise, but the standard sat navigation is awful, so Google maps as an alternative appeals.

not done yet, may do the rear engine mount in poly but given our roads any suspension will get rubber bushes if required

I had my subframe bushes replaced with poly when at Lohen. No detriment in the NVH department but I think does feel a little sharper on the road. I don't think I'd risk going poly on the other bushes either for fear of introducing NVH. If it was a track car, then maybe yes.

Ordered the replacement bushes, and getting fitted next week. Hopefully it tightens everything up

A great write up and top grade spannering as well,
The comment about the front being hinged was great,

well done,

ive just got a boggo one myself,

mini owners are a constant state of high alert for oil leaks and rattly noises, honestly the RAF quick reaction fighters arent as wound up as a mini owner looking for oil leaks

Oil level is critical on r56 s and jcw using the N14 unit, external leaks or internal use is worth keeping an eye on.
