Just totting up what I needed to spend to repair the car (not including go faster bits)

Oil pump £105
Oil pump chain kit £68
Head set £120
Timing chain kit £130
Rad £85
Thermostat £25
oil, filter and coolant £50
Bumper fixing pack £20
Head skim/pressure check/valve seals £110

So just shy of £700, and I got the car for ~£2k under book price. Given I would look at get a chain done on an N14 regardless if I bought one, I think it was worth the effort. It has taken me a month to sort out, certainly not rushing, I think about 24hours in total, a garage would have done it in 1/2 that time I would have thought, so my £2k saving would have been wiped out getting a garage to repair it I expect. Will have it on the road on the 1st of next month, which was always my aim :-)

Is that a JCW? if so what was the increase over stock?
Yes sorry, mine is a JCW rather than S. Standard is supposed to be 208/211bhp depending on what you refer to I think, so a decent jump with the DP, AEM induction kit and the Airtec intercooler in place for that reading on the dyno. Here is the chart for reference :-

Map C (the most powerful one) gave:
269.7 BHP
380.9 Nm (280.9 lb ft) with peak at 3864 RPM
The dyno seems to indicate about +25hp over stock is that right?

"Stock" can't really be classed as such, other than in relation to the map as the car had those additional bits of hardware in place when that dyno run was done prior to the new mpa going on.

However, the "stock" figure of 239.3 bhp jthen umped to 269.7 bhp following the remap, so another +30.4 bhp increase from that on top.

I don'r have a true "stock" figure prior to any hardware or software upgrades, other than the official 208/211 bhp.

Need to find an AEM intake cheap, can't justify new just yet, fancy some 16" wheels first.

Well what a bunch of arse, sounds like the engine has just eaten its bearings banghead

Sounds like lots of smash Begining to wonder if just doing a top end rebuild after what I found in the oil pickup was not a wise move, beer time, will look more tomorrow.

Does it sound like timing chain?

I know sod all about minis, but I do know their noise when the timing chain tensioner is failing. Sounds tappetty.

unsure if it would be good luck or not that it ate a new timing chain in 60 odd miles, I just have a gut feeling it is the mains that have gone.

Mains are a dull thud. Get a pole low down on the block and stick your ear on the end.

Mains would also be bugger all oil pressure.

Will investigate later today, however I have been looking, a recon engine is £1300 fitted (year warranty, new cam chain, new bearings), an unknown used is ~£800 (so add £150 for doing the timing chain at least and I fit it), rebuild is going to be minimum £500, depends on damage, and given this thing had a new oil pump and still got oil starvation I really don't think I trust it.

Is the oil pressure zilch?

You’ve got to get the old engine out anyway to fit the new - so worth having a look at the rod bearings and decide then.

After all this good work you can’t just let it go with a swap!!
