HK isn’t worth it and neither is HUD, ok the 12k is a big saving but wanting to stay with a JCW because of those two options is pointless.
The issue is the £12k difference. I’ve added almost every option to the JCW so I only mentioned them as examples, there’s loads of spec the GP doesn’t get - pan roof, comfort access amongst others. I’d need a significant discount, probably bettering the 20% I got off the JCW. Unlikely.

And the JCW is a manual, which is not critical but I fancied a change.

Still none on Auto trader or mini approved.
Wonder what’s happening to the unsold units?

600 miles on mine and loving it. Surprisingly quick cross country, looking forward to a few track days!

>>However, despite its obvious competency, the decision to make it available with an automatic gearbox only appears misguided

That was the main reason I was not interested, plus the flaps. Those getting one, it will definitely be quick biggrin

Only a few were built before lockdown so there won’t be many around yet

I still don’t get the whole manual thing, I’ve had manual Ferrari’s and other super cars and wondered what all the fuss is about. Why would you tune a car to its limits then slow it down with a manual gearbox. You can have plenty of involvement with a flappy paddled car believe me, it enables you to change gear mid corner without lifting off and taking your hands off the wheel.
I’ll never buy a manual car again, I just don’t see the point, it’s like buying music on vinyl, pointless. (Awaits beardy backlash (-: )

I can see both sides. Some people like the fact the car will move about more with the lift off etc.. Cars like the old Renault sports I had used to be great fun lifting off and getting back to move around... But no way will a manual be a quicker car if its times your after.

Unless on track these cars are so fast and capable to the point of being numb to drive on the road as you can't access their full potential.

A manual gearbox is essentially the only way to feel like you're controlling the car. In an auto, everything is electric - gearbox obvs, but also steering, brake, throttle, etc. The car would drive itself given the right software and that's kind of sad/boring when it's supposed to the most aggressive version of the car.

As above I see both sides, I've had manuals and autos depending on my situation at the time, and what I want out of the car. But I don't think it's that difficult to see where manual gearboxes might be more enioyable, if not the fastest or most practical.

Critically I think you should just have the choice, and then everyone can be happy. But when previous GP models have been manual only, to make the jump to auto only I think was a bit misguided as they are now having to pull in a new audience rather than counting on previous owners who want an upgrade for the majority of sales.

I cant understand why you would pay a premium, cars were still available to order from your dealer just prior to lockdown.

If people think £37k is nuts in the UK, my friends in the Far East tells me that the GP after tax is even more insane... e.g. in Thailand it costs £104,000!!! MSRP after tax eek

I have a call with my dealer tomorrow to find out what’s happening, never heard anything since we started lockdown. Car was originally scheduled for 2nd week of May, so expect it now maybe towards end of June or July.
