Ha, we're all similar folk! I had a 987 Cayman S a few years back and have regretted selling it ever since, I love that era of Porsche, its modern enough to be properly useable and not a compromise and old enough to retain some of what's gone before. I had a 992 GTS for a few days and to be honest it was lovely but I was left a bit "meh"

The Mini was always meant to be a bit of a bit of a track car, but not strip it out so bare that it would be a pain just to take for a drive. The 997 will also be a bit a of a project, it'll go on a track, but I'd cry less into my cornflakes if I totalled a 5k mini than I would a 45k 997.

Family wagon I'm lining up a Golf GTD
If I’m honest I was actually after another classic mini when I bought the cayman-I’m really into my old minis and had a deal done for an absolutely lovely 1961 mk1 fully restored with a 1293cc engine in it,and the seller pulled out at the last minute-I’m still really fked off about it a year later lol. I love the cayman though

We are proper derailing this thread now, I sold my mongrel classic beginning of last year as someone wanted to buy it to rebuild it and I didn't have the time for it or maybe the love for it anymore.

I don’t think a few choice mods will undermine the value at all in the future-the standard suspension is awful !!!
'choice' mods won't really, that is if choice = quality, just keep the standard parts perhaps,

this stuff doesn't affect some of the classic Mini's done well, why should it the later car?

thing is, the classic's with any kind of value aren't quite so likely to be made out of iffy ebay parts ;O)

Any ideas on power gains for the combination of 15% pulley, uprated plugs and better intercooler? Is 210-220bhp realistic? And what sort of cost for a tuner to fit that lot?
Also does it make any difference if you base on the 163bhp model or the later 170bhp one? e.g. does the 7bhp difference carry over when tuned?
typical for a 15 would be 195-200

sure the pre-facelift can drop a few but it's a mixed bag really, all cars are different,

I wonder why the new “advice “ to get a map with a pulley ?
Surely all the tuners knew how the old map behaved back in the day?
it's very definitely not new advice,

maybe like not seeing many Minis on the road until you own one, then you see loads in your colour.... always been there, as has the need to alter fuelling and ignition timing for all petrol engines having more air put through them if hoping to get the best out of them

I am considering a tuned MINI (had one before) to go alongside my weekend-only use Cayman. It's just a question of how much time you have to actually drive them all. I barely do much more than 1000 miles in the Cayman as it is, so I couldn't justify more than a few grand (including mods) for another car that might cover less than 1000 miles a year.

Maybe splitting use between summer and winter cars is the way to go, but really you are going to want to drive both in the nicer months.
it's hard knowing we're not necessarily going to use them much, is it a waste etc? Many people have sold up due to it, often returning having realised something was then missing from their lives,

I do consider sometimes letting mine go, putting it back to stock of course, of late it only does a few hundred miles annually I think, until mid June it hadn't even been on track for three years,

then I find a reason to use it or take someone out in it and such thoughts soon pale into insignificance,

it usually then gets cleaned and parked up again after the cobwebs have been cleared and brake discs are all shiny again, the sound of straight cut gears and the general silliness of it lasting for a while ;O)
