Was out running a few errands in the Cooper S yesterday morning, driving the Mini in my usual 'enthuisiastic' manner (well, the car does encourage you to after all) pitched into a large roundabout and the surface changed just as I turned in - cue MINI drifting progressively sideways and opp lock round the rest of the bend. Hilarious Roads were empty so went round for a couple more goes, and its really amazing how sideways the little bugger will go whilst still being easily controllable Who needs RWD??!! Anyone else indulge in this side of the MCS persona?

Note: Probably helps that the front tyres were changed recently, and the rears are just legal, I expect the car will be a little more stable once the rears are changed too.

Surprisingly good fun on track too - more room to commit and get lots of oversteer...

With good reason!!

Lift off oversteer even at low speed on tight roundabouts was indeed one of the high points...

I've never managed to get mine to oversteer, maybe I'm not going fast enough

Rain + slippery roundabout should do the trick. Ours will happily get quite a long way sideways Either that or get and trick and a Scandanavian flick is guaranteed to get some rear end action :no pun:

I love playing with mine in the bends. Its what they're best at!

My trick is in the tyres. 3 Yokohama a-539's and 1 Falken on the n/s/r

Cue drifting

You may find that lift-off over steer is the more unpredictable method to induce a slide and has in the past caught many hot-hatchers out.

May I suggest the slightest of a left foot dab on the brakes as you approach the apex of said roundabout and then hard on the gas to pull you out of the drift?

This should produce a slide at lower speed (therefore safer?) as the weight transfer can be achieved more efficiently with the brakes than with the lift-off approach. Once this has been mastered, the speed can increase.

Probably better add that this should be done on private roads

PS Careful when you brake with your left foot as you may send everything flying towards the windscreen – You’ll be surprised at the pressure difference from the clutch pedal

Its taken me about a month to get used to left foot braking and I think I've just about got there.

I've found that at anything above 25mph a quick scandinavian flick also helps upset the back end.

(quickly the wrong way and then the right way on turn in)

With the left foot breaking are you trying to lock back wheels up to induce the slide or is it just the sudden deceleration that makes the back overtake the front as ive had a few goes but all that happens is i slow down. No sideways action just wearing my breaks out. Help
