As far as I can tell from the MINI site, the census of opinion is split between:
Pirelli P zero
BF Goodrich
Eagle F1

F1's being fitted friday......have been using the original run-flats, which on the front are looking like slicks.
Will happily post a report with my impressions if I can drag myself away from the car for long enoughhehe

cloud9 OH MY GOD!! What a difference! The F1's are amazing. I feel like I'm driving a new car. Why oh why did Mini fit runflats?
If you've got runflats, getting them changed now, forget the mortgage, forget the credit card bill! You'll never regret it!
Right I'm off for another spin!

Thank you!

Now I am confused... Eagles are sounding tempting.. nuts, I'll just fit some Eagles, had them before on other cars and was always impressed. Thanks everyone.

Do whatever you can to get rid of the run-flats...
just wind some elastic bands around the rims....whatever it takes!

Just drove back fom mini dealers with a loan cooper with 16" RF's can not believe how hard the ride is. My mcs rides on 18's and that's better.

did you stay with the same size? there seem to be relatively few non-runflats in 205/45/17..

also when I spoke to one tyre firm they (probably just to cover their own backs) said that they strongly advised informing the insurance company if you changed to non-runflats?

thanks!

I know that I've already posted about tyres but after 15 laps of the Ring I can honestly say that the Federals are amazing. They warmed up nicely before turning very sticky. Still got huge amounts of tread left and the tyres are in very good condition. If you think that I was driving like a pussy then think again. By the end of the 15 laps I was overtaking 911 GT3's, a Skyline, lots of TT's, endless Caymans and also managed (just) to hastle a TVR through the twistys.

People using Toyo's should be wary as they cook too fast and loose all tread very very quickly if used aggressively.

Buy Federal. (As used by the Australian touring cars).

From experience I find the runflats to give a harsh and uncomfortable ride. The wear rate of the tyres is high on the outside edges because of the self support walls. They tram line and they are an idiot to change.
Apart from that if you ever have a blow out they may just save your life!

I went with T1-Rs and they are a vast improvement - mind you they pale into slidey land after trying the r888s on my trackday wheels.driving I'm tempted to try something else when the T1_rs run out...Yokos or F1s seem the obvious other choices.

please can somebody explain to me what you have to do if you switch to normal tyres.

how does this foam stuff work..? has anyone bought a spcesaver and just stuck in in the car somewhere..?

as you'll see from my other post i really do want to stick with runflats in some ways because my wife uses the car every day for work and i don't want her to 'get stuck'.

BUT i am unsure about getting dunlop sp9000s when for less i could have a lovely set of p-zeros.... (or as you say toyos..).

There shouldn't be a problem with switching from run flats to normal tyres. They're the same size etc so your tyre fitter will simply slip the old ones off and put the new ones in their place.

The foam stuff can be bought in two types.
I believe that Halfords do a can of compressed fluid that you just feed into the tyre through the valve which partially inflates the tyre and sort of glues the hole. (But not 100% certain on that one).
BMW sell a kind of glue that you squeeze through the valve before pumping up the tyre. This stuff is supposed to swish around inside the trye, find the hole, plug it and then form a smooth layer inside so that you can motor on safely (if a little slowly) to a tyre repair place. With this one (and possibley the other) you'll need to have a pump to inflate the punctured tyre. But as there is a fag lighter socket in the boot of most minis it's easy to get a 12v charger and use that to inflate the tyres.

Obviously if you have a blowout rather than a puncture it'll make little difference whether you have run flats or standard tyres.

Buy some Federal Tyres. I did on advice of my local tyre expert and haven't looked back since. Excellent tyres. I was going to go for P Zero's or Toyo's but was said that the P Zero's are overpriced for what you get and the Toyo's don't last at all. I'm glad I followed their advice.

Yep. I've only had to use it once so far for a slow puncture. But everyone at work has had a go. Don't quite know why confused

Ive got Yoko Prada 2`s an think there brillaint stupid amounts of grip in the dry, average in the wet, sem to be wearing very well even with 240bhp through the fronts an a serious amount of negative camber on the back. I tried the toyos an tbh thought they were pretty cack, i really wanted Bridgestone s02`s but coudnt get them but i havent been disappointed in the yokos an they have an awesome tread patten
