1320 also do a conversion to the 6-speed Cooper S box, which is what I think I'll do when my Midlands box eventually drops its guts over the road!

Hi Guys,

I was thinking of contacting the dealer from where the car was originally bought from? Or should I go to mini direct?

They are lovely little cars but when something as bad as this happens it makes you question the company.

Thanks for the suggestions guys - still gutted but at least I have few options to investigate.

i purchased a new mini one in June 2006. This year i have had problems with the gearbox. Basically i had trouble getting the car into gear. i checked the foot pedals and the clutch was very low down, i pulled the pedal up and the gears were ok. This has now happened 4 times in 3 months. Also the windows squeak when opening them when raining and i have an annoying rattle coming someone inside the car. BMW have checked the car and fitted a new clutch, changed the windows seals and done something to the glove box. All the original problems are still happenning despite them having my car for 3 days. I have now re-booked my car into their workshop. Hopefully this will all be resolved with minimum nuisance. Although i have these problems i do love my mini and it is a pleasure to drive.

I have a 13k old Mini Cooper and my gearbox is ropey.

I think it is like pot luck with Mini gearboxes. Some decide theyve had enough after 5k miles, some last 100k miles. And that's whether you drive them hard or not.

There are pros and cons of either gearbox unit.
