you tried most insurers??

Elephant.co.uk was relatively good value when I had the Porsche boxster - my premium was around £700 for the group 18 car, valued at £38k...mind you, I'm in the age bracket that should deliver the best value - 36....a bonifide dinosaur, basically!!!

I've been making some calls myself to insurers - More Than is lowest at present at £390. S is group 15E

Well I am 19 so I think it would be a case of phone down as soon as I mentioned a Cooper S. However I have the MINI bug bad now, so next car will probably be an S, and I wont be changing until I'm over 21 anyway. So hopefully it will be good news by then! At the mo with me been at home less than 6 months of the year I am insured under my dad (for the ONE D its about £350 for both of us with NFU) Allthough I do have 1 year no claims to help in the future!

our R99 alloys - do you know if they are lacquered or not? I know they are of a polished finish but do they have a clear coat on top? I'm thinking in regards to maintenance, and removing dreaded brake dust.

I'm a big fan of 'wonder wheels' alloy wheel cleaner and i was in my garage and read the box - it stated that it was not suitable for alloys which were not lacquered - real bummer if i cannot use this cleaning product on the R99 as this is brilliant for removing baked on stubborn brake dust from alloys -use to work a treat on my previous car. These polished rims may require special car or just very frequent cleaning - every week to keep them looking gleaming as they should be

Hi mate, I am not sure to be honest, maybe a quick thread on mini2.co.uk might help you out?! It looks like I am going to be spending alot of time cleaning my car... its black!!! Plus like you say, looks like the alloys will be prone to brake dust.

good suggestion..black looks the biz when it's washed and waxed with that showroom shine....i think you will find it very rewarding cleaning the body panels on the mini - all those curves. Roll on spring and summer I say....i read that mini's get a dirty backside pretty easily as the rear wheels are pushed right to the corner and throw all that muck up - need so beefy mud guards i reckon!

a light wax on the alloys will help keep much of the brake dust off....i will look for a cleaning product that is situable for non lacquered alloys and let you know

Love the wheels. Compliment the car very well.

Use to have a One D and it was a lovely car to own. Granted it is never going to be the quickest car off the mark but once its going the responce its fantastic.

Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for the kind comment,
Mine is the 88bhp version, my Brother has a 54 plate ONE D with the 75bhp engine and even that seems to have alot more punch in gear than my previous C2 diesel (I had a drive of his this weekend). I am pretty excited to see what the extra 13bhp has done to the car!

18" Lenso Reizen 2 - bought them about 5 months ago quite hard to find at the time got mine from south west tyres who did the best deal at the time with the Toyo's i wanted fitted. Glad you like them, wanted something a bit different and had to get off the runflats.

Cool, yeh they look the dogs mate! Mind you I am pretty chuffed with the R99's. So I take it the runflats are not very good on the MINI, there is a big thread in this forum on them, doesnt seem to say what the problem with them is though!?

Runflats everybody hates them ! The problem is the side walls which are thick to take the weight of the car without air. Good stuff for punctures especially at speed and save the cost and space of a spare wheel. The trouble is they make the ride hard, especially over rough potholed roads and generate a lot of noise, they also don't grip as well as other standard tyres and wear out quite fast plus they cost a small fortune. Best to stick with them while under warranty then get rid buy a puncture repair foam kit and make sure your breakdown covers good then enjoy the difference - You think the MINI handles well, its a lot better with proper tyres.

Ahh ok, well sounds like come new tyre time once its out of warranty they will be changed!
God knows why BMW fitted them then if the handling can be improved on! Jokers!

I know Im dead lucky to have a MINI at 19. My parents have lent me the money I needed to buy the MINI but I will hopefully have paid them back after two more years slogging away in Tesco's at every spare moment. I managed to pay them for the C2 in two years so hopefully I can do the same with the MINI. Im also very lucky that I work at Uni so the money I get from there I live off, with my parents insiting that they pay from accomodation and tution. So dont have a student debt at the moment.

Hi all!

New to the mini fold, have just bought a 2006(06) Mini One D. My younger bro got one a few weeks ago and it turned me! Coming from a Citroen C2, the Mini is better in every way! Paid 13.5k for it (not taking the trade in for the C2 into account) think it was a fair price looking at Autotrader and Mini Cherished prices.

A few (rubbish) pics from the advert:

It has a few extras:

17" R99 polished double-spoke alloys,
Harmon Kardon sound system - very very impressed by this!
Half leather seats
Alarm (presume this is different to central locking?!)
Zip decal on the roof
Chili pack

Roll on two weeks to delivery! Anything I should look out for?

P.S does anyone know what power the Harmon Kardon system is? (watts?)

BTW whoever said your car had chilli pack knows feck all about minis, as its only available on cooper an cooperS, that said it does look a lovely specification
