hi, im looking to get a nice cooper s prob no more than £8500 im a bit confused on pricing as there are some nice looking 03 under 40k mileage around this pirce then i see 02 with higher mileage for over £10.5k any reason for this.

also where there any probs with 02 / 03 cooper s or would i be better spending more and going for an 04 ? is there much difference

thanks

(apologies if this has been asked before)

All down to the toys.

Sat-Nav, panoramic sunroof, climate control etc. can add hundereds onto the second hand value.

£8500 would be the bottom limit for a 03 cooper S, and probably has few of the toys. While they are still holding their money very well in the second second hand (if you get my drift) market the toys will be all important. Also the works kit will make a big difference on price. Mines a 53 plate and a 210 works with only 25000 on it and should go for about £11000 I hope when she goes up for sale soon frown

If you can do without the toys, and are going to keep the car then don't bother as it will be quicker as it will be lighter biggrin 210 bhp can be easily reached by the other tuning companies now for a lot less than the JCW kit, and companies like GTT and LOHEN have excellent back up.

id imagine you would not get the chilli pack on the 03 £8.5k ones. that is something i would make sure i got, makes it a much nicer specced car with xenons bigger wheels, half leather and so on.

but if you just want it for pure driver enjoyment then i guess it doesnt matter so much. no chilli pack = less money & less weight biggrin

Hi
I am selling my '03 reg Indi Blue Cooper S. It is a great little car, I am only selling due to buying a convertible MCS. I would def recommend buying a MCS with the chilli pack, full leather, aero body kit & xenons, these are the best options I have on my car. Some of the MCS which are on the market have very few options. Just to give you an idea on the kind of options avilable, here is the spec of my car;

Manual, 36,000 miles, 03 Reg, Indi Blue Metallic
Black FULL LEATHER
Chilli Pack, Full Aero Bodykit
Heated Front Seats, Dynamic Stability Control, Leather Steering Wheel, Sports Seats, White Roof, White Bonnet Stripes, Union Jack Rear View Mirror and Exterior Mirror Covers, Union Jack Rear Aero Decal, John Cooper Works Genuine Exhaust Trims, 17" S-Spoke Alloys With Pirelli Run Flat Tyres, Xenon Headlights With Headlamp Washers, Front Fog Lights, Automatic Climate Control With Air Conditioning, Harman Kardon Surround Sound Stereo CD, Chrome Dial Surrounds, Dynamic Stability Control, Rain Sensors, Auto Dim Mirror, Heated Mirrors and Washer Jets, Front Storage Tray,
Full MINI Main Dealer Service History, Recent Service and Brake Fluid Change, New MOT
Very Big Specification, Excellent Condition, Two Lady Owners From New.

Just one last question are the 17" wheels worth having do they make much difference ?

Personally I would not go any bigger than 16 as they seem to be the best size for the car. I have a R56 Cooper S that came with 17s as part of the chilli pack, but I binned them in favour of 16s with proper (non-run flat) tyres and the transformation is amazing. That said, its going in three weeks as I am returning to Lotus.

Mini experience has been exactly that, although not really a positive one!

Full 4 wheel alignment costs £24 in Humphries worth tuppence 2nd hand. And unless your car is fully wheel aligned the MOT inspector coulf fail it for fouling on the front wheels
