Hello, Im 19 and just bought a 06 Mini Cooper with 10k miles on it. In the Hyper Blue. It is a convertible so in the summer the girlfriend can have the roof down etc.
It already has the 17" Mini wheels on it and the white stripes plus the spot lights. It has the Chilli pack and sports seats, heated etc etc.

I would like to know what can be done to make the whole thing a bit more manly. I have seen the AC Schnit floor mats and nice wheels etc with the twin exit exhaust. What things dont get effected by warranty? I do alot of miles and superchip claim better feul consumption when you chip it, is this true?

Can you get a detachable Tow Hitch? any info would be great. John Cooper seast any good if Im doing 65 mile a day for work?

Cheers for any info given.

Hi Tom,

What are you wanting to tow?

Wife used to have a Cooper S convertible, and i agree with you that it feels "effeminate" when you're driving round with the roof down, but i didn't really care what other people thought. I'm not trying to be insulting in saying that i think you'll struggle to make it look "manly" (define manly?!?!?) so if you're wanting to spend money on it, you may as well spend money on a chip and an exhaust to make it sound better.

Re. the seats i'm assuming you mean swapping out the heated seats you have for some bucket seats? I think you'll miss the heated seats on more occasions than you'll feel the benefit of having bucket seats, so my 2p would be to keep the seats as they are.

They're a cracking car, and you can't put a price on driving with the roof down, just enjoy it biggrin

Well I only would like to tow 140kg. I race different powerboats, one being a Zapcat/Thundercat so would like to tow that behind it sometimes. But have a tow hitch that is ditachable so it doesnt spoil the lines.

Im not too worried either about what people think, i think its a cool car with the roof up or down, and wil be lots of fun for me and my mates in the summer. Regarding tuning, I have quite an important in the super yacht market, therefore I cannot have aloud and overpowering noisy car. I would much prefer to have a suttle sound, ie like a porshe ( yes i know it will never be like one) but in the sense that its has a nice tone quite and not chav etc, also I do alot of motorway miles, so having a loud exhuast like somethign of the back of a Corsa or Nova Sri aint for me.

What can you reccomend that gives a nice tone, bit of performance, easy to change when it goes in for service and at motorway speed doesnt vibrate the car to death or its passengers with a horrible tone.

If you are worried about the masculinity of the Mini, why didn’t you go for something else?

I don’t think its a Girls car in any way and have no problem driving mine around in standard form (Mini Cooper with 17s as well). There are some people on here who feel they need to butch up by saying FWD is for sissies and only RWD makes you a man, blah blah blah, but just ignore them. They most likely drive something like an Accent Coupe and would love a Mini Cooper if they drove it.

Totally agree..does anyone have any exhuast info, for a nice tone but not chav or too loud for motorways etc

Also when I receive it next week, would be up for doing a run to Nurberg Ring ~(not sure spelling currect) would be a laugh and chance to get more info on what you can do to these cool little cars....

I'm not really all that "up" on different mods etc, but i would suggest the best place to get an answer is www.mini2.com there are loads of knowledgeable mini owners on there!!!

Not long now til you get to indulge in some top-down motoring biggrin

BTW, you'll need to travel very light for a trip to Nurburgring, the boot is teeny tiny! We drove to South of France in our Cooper S hatchback last autumn, and we had the entire back seat full of stuff as well as the boot!!! Surprisingly capable car for a 2,500 mile road trip though!!
