Okay, so my first post on the mini forum (normally a biker!) and I'm looking for advice to help out my brother in law.

He runs a garage in the Czech Republic and has a 2001 Cooper which a customer has brought in with a wrecked engine.
Long story short, it is much cheaper for him (well, me actually) to source an engine in the UK and drive over and collect it than to rebuild the existing or buy another in mainland Europe.

I have found an engine in a breakers from a 2003 car with the engine code starting W10B16D; the original engine has the code W10B16A.
Will it fit?

In case it helps, the vin No's on the two vehicles end TB58211 on the bust car, TG22651 on the donor vehicle.

All help appreciated.

Hi

Sorry I cannot help you directly, but try Mini2.com. It tends to be populated with more people than pistonheads. Is the Czech exchange rate helping with the decision??

Czech exchange rate is currently around 28-29 crowns to the pound.
When I first went there in 1999 I was getting 53!

(And at the village pub, a beer has gone up from 17 to 23 in that time too...)

Add in cheap diesel in CZ and Holland and an inexpensive ferry from Ijmuiden to Newcastle and it's a no brainer!

Hi Guys (and Gals!)

Thanks for all help; ended up buying the engine anyway; £425 including the injection system, done just over 30k miles!

Are mini engines always so cheap?

Yeah. We've sold them for less than that before!

That seems good - how much do Cooper S engines go for!?

I'm surprised we don't see the engine in more kit cars.
