Hi, usually post in the BMW forum but thought this would be the best place for advice. I am looking for a Cooper S for the wife and have about £7k to spend. I have never been in one and so I appreciate space is of a premium. We have 2 children, 6 and 4 and obviously use kids seats. I am not able to even look at any until the weekend and so I would be grateful if anyone could let me know if the car is practical for a family of 4. It will be used for school runs etc and so no long journeys envisaged.
Any help would be appreciated.
regards
Steve

It depends on how far back you or your better half have the front seats, I'm 5'11'' and like the seat a fair way back, there is no room for legs thicker than Kate Moss' behind my seat (it's all I can do to fit my arm in the gap TBH.My wife's 5'5'' and has hr seat a lot further forward and there is a significant improvement. I've got two kids but they're both in kid's seats so their legs/feet don't hang down below the seat.

You'll never fit four adults though.

Yeah its a bit of a push getting 4 adults in, but it is possible - done it a few times now. It does mean I have to pull my seat forward a bit.

I have two boys aged 3 and 4. Weve been on some long trips as a family of four without too many problems. We have the Mini roof rack and basket on our S adding alot more load capacity.

We find it easier to get them in the back as you are facing backwards with it being a three door as opposed to the b pillar getting in the way of our volvo.

Horses for courses but we like it, only got a volvo when we brought the family dog!

If the driver is under 5.8 then four adults is easy.

The passenger has plenty of room to move the seat, allowing the person behind to sit fine, and as said as long as the driver is not too tall then there is enough room there two.

It will be fine for your kids, I am over 6ft and have had four in mine many times.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I think I will go and look at the weekend and try one for size. Will a budget of £7000/£7500 get me a reasonable one? (not from a main dealer obviously)
Thanks

Have a look through the classifieds there is plenty.

Then when you have found one there are people on here with access to various bmw/mini systems to check it out for you wink

What type of systems and what would need to be checked out?

Thanks
