Hello all

I am thinking about buying a 2008 Mini One (an EX demo in an ideal world). But the one thing that is confusing me is Mini pricing.

A year ago I was looking at buying a brand new one and it was looking at around £14,000 for the spec I wanted. But when I spec it up now (With all the discounts that I hear about) the same mini would cost me £14.000.

So I am now thinking about a second hand one. But how much should I expect off the asking price with sales of them not doing that well at the mo?

Any advice would be most grateful?

I bought a nearly new Cooper from a MINI dealer last month, they were quite willing to offer me an initial reduction of £400 but I had to work quite hard to get them to move anymore than that. In the end I got another £200 off and then things like a years tax, TLC and then another couple of hundred off the price of the gap insurance thrown in.

I wasn't in an ideal position to haggle as even at the original price my car was competitively priced, but they showed willing and moved a bit so that kept me happy. smile

Another salesman to the one I was dealing with did spurt some nonsense about not wanting to damage the brand by reducing prices, I'd take that with a pinch of salt, but wouldn't expect enormous discounts.

Actually, his comment is probably fair enough - it sounds like discounting is what puts people off of buying a Vauxhall / Ford from new.

It's probably fairly accurate, and as an owner I'd rather they didn't start handing out huge discounts.

It was one of the first things I was told when I walked in the dealership though, by the only guy in there wearing a suit, so I didn't pay too much attention as it sounded like sales speak.

I would imagine there's probably bigger savings to be found on brand new MINIs at the moment, I've heard a lot of reports of an increase in used sales.

The bigger discounts are to be had on pre reg Clubmans. The ONE and Cooper hatch are selling well. I have seen Clubman S's with Chili going for £15k on pre reg cars!

You should read this thread, yes it about a MCS, but all relevant to any model in terms of negotiating a deal wink

Hey

Cheers for the advice. I think what I will do is go and talk to my local dealer in Sussex in the hope that they will give me a really good deal.

Wish me luck?
