Mini Help! Buzzing noise from engine bay 03 Cooper S

Hi all, can anyone diagnose this fault i.e. it may be a common one. There is a loud buzzing noise coming from the engine of my 03 Cooper S. On closer inspection it seems to be coming from under the plastic panel which says 'MINI' on it, just next to the left end spark plug. What is under that cover?

It seems to go away when I rev the engine.

Any ideas?

There is a breather pipe that comes out of that panel and runs across the cylinder head - crankcase breather pipe I think it is?

Anyway, it had a split in it.
