My other half was unfortunate enough to have a mirror stolen from her Mini Cooper last weekend, and we have just received a replacement from ebay.

Looking at it, it seems that we need to remove the base of the mirror and bolt that to the car and then re connect the main mirror.

I am trying to split the mirror as shown in this picture and having difficulty:

I have tried moving the clips out and pulling it as shown in this pic but to no avail. If anyone could offer some advice on how best to fit these it would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks,
Simon

Very easy to do!

Hold the mirror and the base, twist the base 90 degrees and you will see two holes the bolts go through that into the car door. thats all there is to it. you may want to twist the mirror you have left, which will reveal the bolts.

Don't try and pull the unit apart just a simple turn of the bottom boss and your in business

Thats why so many get stolen, they are simply too easy to take off. I drilled the heads of the bolts and used locktight on the bolts that way they are not going. OK if I need to replace them its going to be hard work but they wont get stolen

Thank you very much for the advice. Have just tried to fit them and it looks like we have the wrong mirror.

The damaged one that was stolen has 3 bolts securing it and the internals are all plastic and the replacement has only two and metal internals as in the photos above. I am guessing the one that we got from ebay was from an R56 model when our mini is a 2001 model.

Can anyone confirm this for me as I will need to readvertise the mirror we have bought and I want to make sure that we get the correct one this time.

the R56 is bigger in size over the R53 you may have a facelift, mine is also three screws, stand it next to your other and check the size. I did think all r50 - r53 was three screws
