When the boot on my 02 mini One started playing up I tried the most obvious suggestions of replacing the lock and the button switch. When neither worked it was sent up to BMW today where they have informed me that the BC1 has gone. They have given me a price of £540 inc vat and I'm not sure that even includes the labour. Though they have said that under some scheme that BMW provide that they may help with the cost as the car only has 33k miles.

So can anyone help by knowing of a cheaper option of replacing the BC1, maybe a second hand one, and can anyone describe the BMW scheme for paying for reparis?

Thanks
Marc

Try a independent garage for a quote! Isnt the BC1 just a fusebox??

BMW said that the BC1 controls all the voltages around the car, I'm not the most electronically minded. Got the break down from them
£300- for the part
£75- fitting
£175- programming

thought the price of programming was a bit harsh.

Try a specialist breakers yard.

Guy called Mini-matt on E-bay is good for mini parts.

If they try to charge you £175 to program it then they are ripping you off, it only take 15 mins and an extra five to re load the key codes. I would charge £20 for that

It takes circa 20 mins to change (remove drivers sill trim, undo 4 10mm nuts, disconnect and out it comes..You do need to extract some key codes from the old one first though) so overall the labour and coding is 1 hour tops which would be £50 at an indi (£250 is far too much too pay!).

For the part try FAB direct, that £300 will be full retail so chances are you will get that price down too.

can take 2 hours on the R56 as its intergrated software, but on the R50/52/53 it isnt meaning each unit can be programmed individually - DME/EMS (engine management) being the longest at around 20 mins - so 2 hours is utter rubbish
