Hi - the engine emission warning light came on yesterday whilst sitting on the M25 car park . It's a 06 plate Cooper S. Light is still on this morning, but the car seems to drive OK.
Any ideas what would cause this and what needs to be done to fix? Search only came up with one thread which didn't really give the answers.
Many thanks.

Hi Rob,

90% sure it will be an oxygen sensor (02). Just had mine done last week. Will do no damage to drive the car... but would still get it looked at as it controls your fuel mix and car will be using more petrol.

Take if to your local dealer and they will confirm from a engine management read out. Seems to be a common problem. If you take to mini then expect to pay £200 - £250.

I feel lucky as I managed to talk mini to do it under goodwill.

Good Luck

Holy Resurrection.

The Emission Warning Light has been intermittently coming on in my standard '54 MCS for the last year, but it's now also being joined by the Engine Management Light (amber), forcing the car into limp home mode.

If left for a while, or driven gently around the block, both lights clear and it'll be fine for a few days - for instance this morning, it cleared after being filled with Tesco's finest 95.

Does this sound like the pre-cat O2 sensor (as above), or should I be getting it checked out at a garage?

Pistonheads always seem to know best - thanks!
