Hi All,

Simply question really, because as far as I can tell they simply arent shifting at the moment.

I am seeing this from 2 angles.

1) We are trying to sell our R56 Cooper S and its been in AutoTrader and PH for a week now and very little uptake.....

2) We want to buy an R53 Cooper S, and having contacted several (foolishly thinking ours would sell quickly) there are loads for sale AND most have been up for 2 - 3 weeks minimum and still available. (Not to mention the hillarious Ebay auction prices I have seen to boot)

I can only assume this is because they fetch good money and therefore people who need finance etc are inclined to go to a dealer rather than risk loans and private sales?

We arent desperate to sell, but at the same time, do need to sell it at some point soon, just wondering if anyone else is having similar experiences?

No similar experiences but have you tried asking a dealer to buy it?

Bids tend to be pretty decent due to the good residuals.

Yes we have, but we are not that desperate to sell, and to be fair they have to make their margins, thus the offers are never as much as we would like.....

Quite similar to my Wife's car with the exception of a few options. My guess is that it's just too close to dealer pricing. This car for example: http://www.minicherished.co.uk/miniuk/minicherishe... it has double the miles but is nigh on the same price.

I'd also guess that most people buying them will want some form of finance hence the slow interest?

The dealer pricing thing is true, and I am first to admit its not the cheapest, however it does half the milage and Climate, as well as a few other nice toys the dealer one doesnt, I think in essence you are right, the lack of finance options cuts out quite a few punters.

Its a shame as its an immaculate car!

IMO, just hold out for as long as you can and then start to think about dropping the price.

Out of interest, what did you get offered for buy back?

I will be selling (or px'ing) the wife's car in the not too distant future. 2007/56, 22k miles, BMW warranty, TLC, Satnav, Twin sunroof, iPod, heated seats, Black lounge leather, cream/piano black trim, chrome trim in and out (everything except JCW and the TV option really!) and I want to try and get £12-13k for it.

Yeah we will do, as I said we're not desperate to sell so we can wait......

With regards to 12-13k, i would imagine thats a tad high but not far off, we sold her old Mini ONE for 9k and that was a 55 plate Convertible.....

I'd keep it ,If you need to get 16k back for it . The car imho is worth £14,500-£15,000 as a private sale . If you compare to what else is out there . If there are more expensive similar cars to yours for sale Ask yourself why .

And as an example

http://www.minicherished.co.uk/miniuk/minicherishe...

Bit of haggling and this could be your for £16,000 .Newer , higher spec and buying from a Main dealer the option of finance . 50-60 % of MINI are bought this way . Phone the dealer you bought it from and see what they will pay for it . Or try some london dealers Hexagon, Berry and so on

That certainly looks like a good example and when looking previously saw nothing as nice as that for the price.

I am not here to debate prices but looking at the 2nd hand cars of AT and on here I think 14.5 is too low, realistically I would imagine 15-15.5k considering spec and milage, but then there is the question of whether we need to sell it then.....the idea was to puy cash in the bank and buy an R53 for around 9k, the more we drop off ours the less sense my rainy day fund plan makes in my head :-S

The truth is that the marketplace has been far from busy as of late. I can and will say that Minis aro moving, I sell them for a living!

The Cooper S has been the hardest to move of late.

Afternoon guys,

Interesting read. I've had my partners Mini Cooper S up for sale since the tail end of last year and have not had any seious interest.

Link: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1444746.htm

Any hints, tips, price too high? I had a look around on PH and Autotrader and thought the price was fair for the spec and mileage.

Any help greatly recieved!

That has to be just about top money for an R53 (albeit one of the last)?
Car looks pretty decent, has the essential options but not a huge list and has sensible mileage.
To give you reference, I had a trade bid on my Wife's car of £11k. Only 6 months younger than yours but with a lot more options and it's a newer R56.

Edit: The tints and wheels may limit your market too.

Thanks for the advice! clap

The price is by no means set in stone. Any idea of how much i should drop it buy or what you think is fair? I had thought if i included 'Best Offer' then i would have got offers in the region of 10 and up which i would consider.

Looking at the JCW's on the market, I would say 9.5k - 10k would be top money

Although saying that, how much do you drop the price by before you dont sell?! This is the question we are having with ours.......its hard as you dont want to come accross desperate to sell or open yourself up to low offers!

I think it's a question of how much you need to sell it. Are you looking to sell just for a change, can you not afford it any more etc.

Its well overpriced. If it had all the Full JCW seats and brakes it may fetch over £10000, but for a realistic sale you are nearly 2 grand overpricing it. I know as Ive just sold ourssmile
