Are Mini's selling?
Discussion
Hey everyone read this with interest.....
I have spent the last 2 months looking for a Cooper S. I have come to the conclusion that most for private sale are £1k over priced compared with recommended book prices. And the garages.....well they seem to be a law unto themselves when it comes to price.
I set a budget of £7k but became clear I wasn't going to get the car I wanted but eventually had to add another £700 to get a 2004 Cooper S with 50k on the clock loads of toys and in immaculate condition.
I am delighted with the car and the garage was exceptionally helpful. Looking forward to getting loads of hint and tips from this forum.

MINIs just go for more than "book", it's just the way things are. I have spent the last 2 months looking for a Cooper S. Book price is completely flawed in my opinion and most of the time in no way related to real life Market Rates.
It becomes even more difficult with the likes of a MINI that can have 100's of different optional extras
Must admit when we had our R53 Cooper S, I got very little interest from local advertising and national advertising (pistonheads and auto trader). Eventually sold it back to our local BMW dealer - I was pleasantly surprised at the offer (June 2009) - as previously had some insulting offers for other cars from them.
Needed to get rid quickly, (after six weeks advertising) - and this presents no worries of bounced cheques, tyre kickers, insurance on test drives, people coming back complaining about defects etc. etc.
Now I have a little daughter and a lovely Alfa 156 2.4 JTD SW.

I'm going to put my R56 Cooper S up in a week or so, 09 plate with some JCW extras....hope its not going to be a pain to sell!

To be expected i suppose, i've been offered a half decent sum but thats only from one Mini garage and over the phone (i was enquiring about a Z4 and thats what they say they'd do on trade in or if they were just buying it) so i havent tried any more. Mine is 1 year newer than yours, doesnt have quite as good a spec but has ~£3k of JCW parts/private plate.
I'll probably try it on PH in a week or so then give AT a try if nothing happens....also might as well try some Mini garages, if they give me what i'd want private near enough then i may just sell it to them to avoid any hassle.

I have sold two cars recently, a BMW 320d Touring and a Beetle TDi. They didn't attract much attention to begin with however with the market being so price sensitive once I reduced the asking price I had interest and sold both this month.
I think that the car market is similar to that for property, good stuff will move if the price is right. You have to take a hit to sell but can offset that against the car you purchase.
Where you advertise is also important.

I think there is quite a difference between the private buyer spending 8-9k and one spending 15k - certainly when i sold my leon cupra r for 8k it went to a right chav, however people that have called about the mini seem to be quite well to do types.
Unfortunately been messed around again so we still have it!!!
