Well, I can only assume trade in my neck of the woods is good - I just traded mine back to the dealer (09, 21k miles, Cooper S with JCW engine kit) for £16,250.

Delighted, as it's cost me pretty much nothing to get out of the PCP.

Great car, I'll miss it.

Now, what next?

After months of deliberating, I bought one yesterday.

It's both month and quarter end, so I got a good deal. I've been speaking to dealers from all over the UK for the past few weeks trying to sort out a deal. Most seem to be very inflexible when it comes to discounts and they were also offering me £11k for an 18 month old 118i SE with a fair few extras and only 11k miles. This is well below book value.

However, I managed to get £12.5k for it PX which is reasonable, and £600 off the £15800 price of a 14 months old Cooper S Chili Pack with leather, vis pack, IPOD connector, TLC for 4 more years, chrome pack for int. and ext, privacy glass, auto air con etc etc.

I don't think the dealers are used to people haggling so hard, especially when I could hear other customers dealing too. The showroom seemed to be full of older people buying cars for their kids or significant others.

I had a chat with a dealer a few weeks back who openly admitted the aero kit/jcw kit is easier to sell and therefore they buy them in over standard ones.

I am pleased to say that we are going to keep ours, now where is the number for DMS!?

It would seem so, I sold my R53 Mini Cooper S JCW within 1 day of advertising it and even had 4 buyers fighting over it.

OK it was very rare high spec, low mileage previously owned by Simon Cowell but cant see that making to much of a difference.

Not that I like arguing but that car was forsale for more than a day!! - I looked at it a few times but it was too much £££ for what we were looking for.....

We have had so many joke offers that we are going to keep ours (which I am actually pleased about as its a great car!), I cant beleive how hard it has been to sell, it nearly went and then a guy pulled out due to a new tyre being needed :-s

So DMS here we come, make hay while the sun shines n all that!

I did go chasing the sale though, have you done the same?
Only had it on PH but only had 2 people phone, one a trader from London and one a private car buyer for Castle Mini at York. Trader from London offered me £14250 and the Castle Mini person never came back with an offer.
I phoned a few local dealers, one had a red Cooper S in so didnt want mine at the moment and the other dealer put me onto their private buyer who ended up buying mine.

So i didnt get much interest really, although to be fair it didnt go on Auto Trader, i was going to put it on yesterday in time for the Easter period but the dealer bought mine on Monday.

Chased a bit but thats a dealers delight - i.e i am desperate make me an offer - which we're not, so when we did receive the anticipated derisory offer I told them where to go.

I am not unrealistic, just dont want to be taken for a ride!

Yes, bodykit, wheels and carbon bits. I paid £17k for the car as it stood from a main dealer in September so not to bad considering it was only 5 months old when i got it and as you know its at the high point in its depreciation curve.

Please don't take it the wrong way, but a car is only worth what someone will pay. How long have you had this up for sale now?

It gets to a point where you may as well take a lower than desired price rather than hang onto it as the value naturally goes down. Also, if I were you and wasn't fussed about selling as you say, then I'd take the advert down. People will start to think "that's been for sale for ages, must be something wrong with it".

Ah right- I have an 09 Cooper S with 7500 miles on it. PW with Chili Pack and the only extras are Multi Function SW and Factory Privacy glass. I was comparing your price to roughly what I'd get but without JCW extras I guess mine will be worth around the £13k mark.
For a MINI, even considering the 1st year steep depreciation, it's quite a huge loss!

Ouch! Makes the £11k I've just got for her 56 plate Cooper S look not too bad.
