My wifes cooper needs topping up with about 2 pints of coolant a week. The garage can find no leaks, is this normal?
Also, the heater is very poor and seems to work erratically, is this connected to the coolant loss or a separate issue?
The cars has just been serviced at a non BMW garage and runs superbly apart from this problem.

In some cases the heater matrix packs up but you would notice this in the car. if you have an air lock the coolant may be going through the filler cap, the cap seal could be shot and leaking.

I would say you have an air lock in the car somewhere or the heater matrix is leaking water inside the car, check round the heater base for water.

It is not normal to use the coolant
