Hi all,

We are the new owners of an '05 MCS and are loving it. Had to get rid of the MX 5 due to more than 2 seats being needed now.

One question that has had me reading and re-reading the owners manual and looking all over the net at various forums is how to set/reset the different memory options on the car. I have found spreadsheets etc on the different options that have different settings available and as far as I can see these have to set at a Mini dealer (assume through the diag port into the on board computer?).

Are there any short cuts to get around this? For example, I want to reset the windows up/down operation so one swipe of the switch will operate the window all the way up/down without holding the switch in place.

Also according to the manual it is possible to press the 'open padlock' symbol on the keyfob and hold it in place and the windows/sunroof will open too. Ours doesn't and we'd like that.

More importantly we'd like to lock and set the alarm without setting the motion detector and to leave the windows open. Such times would be when the dog is left in there for short periods of time like popping into the shops etc. One to protect the car, and more importantly so noone tries to nick my dog!

Sorry for the long(ish) post but I have tried the search facility here and have read many forums over the last couple of days and I/we would really love to have some pointers on this.

Is it really a case of choosing what options we want and then coughing up some dosh for a bmw guy to plug his laptop in and select the options. Or is there actually some other way of achieving this?

Thanks (if you have bothered to read this far)!

Steve

Mine opens all windows and sunroof when the MINI badge bit of the key is held down.

Regarding the electric window one button operation works on both driver and passenger down but only on driver up. This is meant to be a safety measure to stop driver trapping the passenger.

I found out when I tried to "race my windows" when I first got the car.

I believe you can buy something that changes this. Have you tried mini2.com and minitorque? they seem to be the rated sites.
