Mini Cooper engine blow up!

Hi All,

my daughter has a Mini Cooper on a 56 plate, and the boyfriend has blown it up by running it with a bad water leak. BMW has said that the engine is a total lose and should be replaced with a new one. This will cost £5K.

Has anyone any ideas where she can take it either to replace the engine (new)at a lesser cost or maybe get a second opinion on a rebuid.

I dont know any one in your area, There are a lot of good indpendants around and look to get a second hand engine. It dose sound a little odd as most times the water is low you just blow the head gaskit. Dose the engine still run at all or even turn over?
