Me and the missus are considering getting a dog, something mid-size like a collie or similar. I've got an R56 Cooper S. I'm not convinced the boot area itself would be very comfortable but obviously with the seats down there's a fair size area. However, the 'step' between the rear seats and boots may prove a problem? Does anyone ferry their dog about and how do they do it?

Ours either sits on the back seats harnessed in or on my lap, again harnessed to the seatbelt. However, she (also collie type) throws up continually. Doesn't seem the like the mini at all, guess it's not smooth enough for her. The Porsche is fine though.

The rear seems to be much stiffer than the front (it's like being in a washing machine), so I'd guess that's why.

My Forza experience tells me that's to reduce understeer!

Mine sits at the passengers feet. With the seat all the way back there is plenty of space!

You really don't want to put a dog in the boot of a hatchback, if you get rear ended there's very little chance they will survive.
