I need a new clutch bearing on my 2002 Mini Cooper S, so while it's pulled apart I'm going to get a new clutch put in for the hell of it.
From those in the know, is it worth getting an OEM clutch? BMW have quoted me £210 for the parts, but you can get it for £110 for a non-genuine one.
Also, does the flywheel need doing on these? Someone mentioned it but I'm not sure.
Thanks, Lucie.

The flywheel will only need changing if it has too much play in it and normally you would know about. The stock bearing will start to rattle again at about 2000 miles but this is normal. If all that is wrong is a rattle then I would leave as it will soon be back, however if its sticking, I would change it. I have done 5 mini clutch changes this year for friends and all the flywheels have been fine with a small amount of play in them
As for the clutch its made by LUK and you can get them for 100 - 140 and is the same as stock. while your there its worth changing. Also while your in there you may as well change the bearing guide, they where revised design and the old style does sometimes bind on new bearings

Thanks for the info...Great so the flywheel doesn't need changing then (the clutch feels fine, it's simply the rattle that's the problem). I'm not sure I quite understand what you're saying; there's no point changing the clutch bearing as it will start rattling again soon after?

That is exactly what I am saying, they all rattle, some worse than others but you will find after a few thousand miles the rattle is back. If its not causing a problem leave alone. I have not been in a mini that didn't rattle and I have been in loads of them.
Seriously? I really don't think anyone will buy my car with that noise (I'm selling it asap) - it's getting louder and it sounds like the car's about to fall apart.Surely it can't be the case that you have to live with it rattling.

I think he's saying theyre all renowned for being a little noisy so a bit of the noise may come back, but not to the death rattle extent of yours currently.

I have the whine on mine (stops when the clutch is depressed)
anyone know anywhere that will do it for less than the above amounts ! ???
My noise only occured when I had a new clutch. They went to fix it and decided it was the flywheel.anyone know anywhere that will do it for less than the above amounts ! ???
I still have some rattling almost a year later.
