I have a Mini Cooper S 03 and I love it, but I have a problem. When its warmed up and I rev it to 6000rpm it cuts into limp mode and the engine warning light comes on. If I turn the ignition off and on again it starts back up as normal but the engine light stays on. If I then let the car cool down and start it the engine light goes out as normal. I wonder if its anything to do with the CO2 sensor.Any ides's out there?

It can be a number of things. My frends car has just has the mass air sensor changed for the same problem. The best way to find out what is wrong is with plug in diagnostics. You can take the car to BMW or a lot of garages have this equipment now also you can now get the equipment your self if you are into diy.

Thanks, probably the way forward but I was hoping a technician may be on line and had a tried and tested solution.

if you wanted such such specific feedback you should just call the garage or there is there a financial reason for avoiding.....

No not at all, just that this is a motoring forum and there are many people with endless knowledge on many different car problems. For example I had a poor running MX5 once and the solution was to change the rear temp sensor, a sensor I didn't know existed until someone on here told me, £15 later and the car was fixed.

That's a bit harsh softtop. All he wanted was some advice like 99.9% of the folk that use these forums. What is wrong with wanting to save money in a recession? Seriously.

For a better spread of mini enthusiasts try totalmini or mini2. Might get more responses.

Have exactly same problem m8.

RYDE suggested a solution and I asked same question mini2 forum, not much help there either.

bmw suggested it could be some kind of regulator and wanted to charge me £300 but couldn't be a 100%, it would work.

RYDE seems to know what he's talking about, so it might be worth going down that route. I'm too lazy and change gear earlier, so haven't followed up what he suggested.

As in the other post most likely to be the MAP sensor in the cast inlet manifold. Its really common fault. Normally the ASC/DSC light and traction light will also come on too.

Have a look at the coils. I had similar a year or so ago on cylinder 3. I changed all coils and they all sing happily ever after. Each coil in a BMW/Mini garage would be about 70 GBP's.
