I'm going to sell my 52 plate Cooper S within the next month or two. I am looking at getting either a Cooper or a One D. I do too many miles to keep the S, it's raping me.

Is the Cooper (looking about a 04/54 plate) economical? Or should I just completely sell my soul and get a ONE D (again, about 53/04 plate)?

Alternatives are a 1 series diesel with high mileage or an A3 with high mileage, but I like MINIs.

Don't think there's much in it between the Cooper and D economy wise. Go for the Cooper, it'll be a lot more frugal than your S anyway smile

I've heard (not actually driven) that the ONE D is not the most rewarding drive as the diesel engine was quite an old design. There's a reason it only came in ONE spec.

However, the R56 CooperD is much better (have driven, lovely relaxed drive) if you can stretch that far; otherwise I agree with Hyperblue to go for the R53 Cooper.

The difference between you cooper s and a cooper will be almost none! got 2 coopers and 1 coopers s and they do about the same mpg unless you boot everywhere in the s. The diesel does about 50mpg tops but the newer shape diesel is a lovely economical car.

I would stay where you are rather than changing as you will see about 5-10mpg from the diesel on average
