We're thinking of swapping the Mini One for a Clubman diesel, are there any recurring problems with this model (e.g such as the thermostat housing, gearbox etc) and is the real-life fuel economy anywhere near what Mini claim?

Cheers!

Can't comment about the economy of the diesel but our petrol is showing at 49mpg after 8,000 miles, pretty close to the claimed figure IIRC.

I've got a diesel one and genuinely love it (somewhat surprising coming from a 993). Every 100 miles seems to cost about £10 which seems reasonable (guessing that 50's to the gallon roughly?). It's no rocket ship but surprisingly nippy - as sometimes remarked by passengers. Boot is a sensible size compared to the one (which my wife had) - I play cricket and can get two or three big bags in at a pinch and we even occasionally get our two
delightful children and isofix car seats in plus peripherals for a family day out.

Add usual mini tlc and residuals (which appear to be holding up well) and all in all it's a pretty good package.

One minor downside, I get a bit of creaking from the barn doors at the back when reversing off driveways etc, but no worse than the glass targa roof on the previous motor.

Hth,

Will

I think we might be going for a Cooper D hatchback rather than the Clubman, seems to be more choice for our budget smile

Mrs Skeeter has a Cooper D Countryman and I have to say I am very pleasantly surprised by the engine. It is the first diesel in our household and it is pretty refined, pulls well and is an easy drive.

Good mpg from it too.

The longer wheelbase of the Clubman gives a more relaxed drive, and there's definitely more space available for passengers and/or luggage.
