Cheers for that, but think i'm going to take it to the Mini dealership and let them do it,as it will be quicker and convenient for me,but at least i have an idea of the cost.

Get one off ebay it will be cheaper, they are only held in place with 3 nuts. Bmw charge £700 for a headlight

Ebay cost should be about 200 depending on which age mini you have

Took it to BMW earlier today, quoted me over £400,so going through ins, have protected no claims,so hopefully won't affect it.

Even with protection its seen as a claim so it will mean you pay your excess and then your premium will go up so you will end up paying more insurance for the next 3 or 5 years. Good call... NOT

What year mini is it? at £400 a headlight is it before 2004?

Save some real money and just go to ebay.

If its just the lens you can carry on driving as the beam is driven from the globe projector and that will give you time to sort it out

They finish in an hour and you will be able to sell your broken one and the other one on for probably a good £150 if not more.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Genuine-BMW-Mini-Xenon-Head-...

As for the broken clip, they normally do that when removed, just a dab of superglue or hot glue when you put it together and your sorted

or this one on its own buy it now http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GENUINE-BMW-MINI-COPPER-S-XE...

You will be able to get at least £50 for your broken one!

Dont claim as you will pay more than £400 (less excess!?) in increased premiums!

I'm not claiming now,pi55ing me about too much, the garage they appointed to do the work is more than 30 miles away, and they can't even say when they could fit it in,what a joke.If i'd have known it was going to be such a ball ache i would have paid for it myself to start with rantingBut even though the claim hasn't actually gone through,my insurance company said that i still have to tell future insurance companies about the claim that i didn't actually make, why is that confused

If you have not made a claim or retracted it you do not need to tell them. I hope you have just gone and brought one off ebay and fitted it yourself... there is 3 bolts and 2 plugs on the back its the easiest job on the mini.

If the insurance have marked it down then you may have to pay for the privilege for the next 5 years, which as stated in the post was not to go through the insurance. I would phone them up and ask them to remove it as there was not claim it was an enquiry however if you started to claim and they have done paperwork then this is a cost to this so it will class as a claim, if this is the case you can offer to pay for the costs so you don't have to mention the claim in the future.

Insurance is for big problems and bumps not a light unit. I'd say if you have to tell insurance companies your premium will have gone up between £30 - £50 a year £150 - £250 over the period of 5 years, the price of a second hand unit. If you can pay off the insurance for the work they started it will likely cost £25 as an admin charge though the last guy who started to do what you did and wanted to payout had a couple of hundred added to his protected policy at renewal time so paid them the admin charge £50 and wiped it... Also if your insurance company are still taking your claim you may have lost one of your protection so get on the phone and sort it out ASAP, don't let them get the better of you if you didn't follow through with the claim

Unfortunately i don't have the time to wait for it to be posted out to me so am having to pay the full wack frownhave booked it in to BMW tomorrow morning, but i will be ringing the insurance company back today to ask why it goes down as a claim,i don't lose any of my bonuses as i've got it protected, apparantly it's just my premium that will go up.
Just rang my insurance company, and they said it won't affect my premium in the future.

You do need to honestly answer questions asked by your insurance company when taking out ins policies, otherwise you risk invalidating your insurance.

So you may need to disclose this if asked albeit I doubt the insurance co have recorded anything on any shared databases etc...

This could increase premiums with other ins cos.

I would never lie or keep back info on things as important as car ins, they said i have to disclose the fact that i started to proceed with a claim,i never actually filled any paperwork out,but it won't affect my premium, and rightly it shouldn't.

OK I am going off topic but (afaik) starting a claim will in the eyes of plenty of insurers increase your risk. You are deemed higher risk due to the fact that you had an "accident" regardless as to its value, whether you completed the claim or whether it was your fault.
So my advice would be NOT to contact your insurer about a potential claim unless its clear that its worth claiming (&/or a 3rd party is involved).

This would have been my 1st claim,if i'd have known it was going to be such a ball-ache i would never have started the process in the 1st place.

I bought my missus an S in October / November time. Lovely little car, suits her. Sadly, my daughter didn't spot it on the drive as she backed her Peugeot out last week, and mangled the driver's side behind the door and before the wheelarch with the corner of her bumper. We got an estimate - £2,290, so it is going through insurance.

I knew that BMW take the piss on parts and labour prices, but I did not know that a mini was made of gold plated carbon fibre and fixed by neurosurgeons.
