I'll keep it simple. I want to buy a new Cooper D for my wife. I've called in to my two local mini dealerships in recent weeks and am staggered at the 'couldn't give a sh*t ' attitude of the salesmen I've encountered. In one case I've rang the dealership five times in a week leaving a message for someone to call back stressing that I am ready to buy.

In exasperation I popped in the showroom unannounced earlier this week met the salesman who hadn't returned my calls... and asked if he was interested in selling me a car right now. The indifference I experienced was shocking. Basically he told me that he couldn't get me a car (Cooper D with Pepper pack is what we want) and it would be a factory order or he would sell me the 'D' they have in the showroom. The best deal he would offer is £500 off.

I wasn't impressed. What is it with mini dealers? Is it the case that they can sell every car they can get so no need to try?

Anyway, I get great corporate discounts with VW/Audi, Toyota and others so I can get hold of a Polo/Golf or whatever easily/cheaply enough and they treat me well. I've just about talked my wife out of a mini... but thought I'd come here and have one last bash at finding someone who might want to sell me a bloody mini.

No p/ex, immediate cash purchase. Any takers?

Ordered my first Mini at Park Lane, London a few weeks ago; sales process was the best I've ever experienced, better than buying my Aston (and I thought they were pretty good!).

ETA: Just e-mailed my salesman, had a reply in my inbox 2 minutes later according to the Gmail clock.

Cash and no P/Ex doesn't cut it these days they are only interested in selling you finance.

Is it still possible to do the old trick of taking out the finance (with whatever deal is offered) then cancelling it and paying the full cash price to the finance company during the cooling off period?

I had the same experience with my local dealer, went in there after a couple of phone calls, all the salesman said to me was heres a brochure have a read up and when your ready to buy come back, went off to another dealer and sorted out getting my car within half an hour of being there.

I bought mine last month through Carfile (Jonny Lawless, great name).
They put you in touch with the dealer direct and take a commission from them.
Got £1300 off a Cooper D and despite being a factory order it came within 3-4 weeks.
The actual dealer was Benham Mini in Wolverhampton.
Call Jonny at Carfile. I have bought 3 cars through him. http://www.carfile.net/

Crazy. If they treat you like that when selling, what are the chances of you using them for service?

Zilch.
