Hi There
I just bought a 1995 SZ Supra in UK and driving her abroad in Netherlands, as I'm working here on contract in Amsterdam
What will be the best way to go with insurance?
I had 3 day temp insurance while driving her down here, but buying temp insurance for 120 pound everytime is gonna kill me!
I'm only looking for monthly based 3d party insurance, that's the required minimum I guess
Is there a dutch insurance company that can cover me for while I'm here?
I don't want to drive without insurance and get the car pounded etc
Or what will be the cheapest way? I really want to drive the car, can't see her just standing here..

You don't mention if the car is on Dutch on English plates ? A UK Green Card is valid (or at least was when I was in the UK) for 90 days on a fully comp policy.
If on Dutch - get yourself some cheap car insurance "Beperkt Casco" is a Dutch equivelent of TPFT in the UK I think.
If on English then just use an online insurer, get TPFT who covers you with a green card.
Thanks for the Info, I will try and get another quote,one with extended cover and hopefully it will look better than the previos quotes...
Is there no way I can buy pay as you go european cover? cause only drive the car 2 times a month..
What is the worst that can happen if I drive without insurance and get pulled over by the cops?
ps. IT's still on UK plates, don't know how expensive it will be to import into Netherlands..? Is there a way I can do it duty free? after a certain period?

From my minimal experience of Dutch police, watching them kick crap out of a 14 year old lad for having no lights on his bike, I'd not want to be caught with no insurance. Is there no way I can buy pay as you go european cover? cause only drive the car 2 times a month..

When I had my car out there, it wasn't much more than normal insurance.
Dutch companies are not allowed to insure cars with anything other than Dutch number plates. You can get 30 day cover however by getting them to insure on the chassis number.
When officially importing the car you will have to pay an amount of BPM (Luxury car tax) When new this is 45% but reduces by 1% per month until it reaches a minimum of 10% (My Dec 2003 TVR T350 is nearly €4000 BPM)
