Where for a night out in Northampton?

Colleague of mine has just asked for advice where to go for a good night out in Northampton.. She's up for the weekend with a load of mates, but seemingly noone knows the area. Despite living here a while, neither do I..
She sugested Auntie Ruth's but I've never heard of it. I'm guessing trendy bar selling alcopops rather than decent boozer with real ale. So, anyone any ideas?

Probably one of the safer places but a bit up it's own A on it's 'exclusive membership' nonsense.
Yep they're all in the same venue. all owned by the Richardson's, along with the picture drome, White hart and the Bradlaugh. Probably one of the safer places but a bit up it's own A on it's 'exclusive membership' nonsense.
IMHO the membership is one of the reasons it is one of the safest places because you don't get loads of pi$$ed up kids in there lookign for fights
Not everyone would agree with you mark 
Charles Bradlaugh is good,
then maybe Chicagos, sounds like Chicagos would be ideal if its a group going as you dont need membership, its a bit 'common' but arent all clubs, its spacious, you dont get hounded by people who cant speak english and its a good choice of music, good for groups!

Skinner, Central is sh1t, only good thing is cheap beer and free admission.
Sticky carpets and walls are fine once you've had a skinfull.
How on earth you can bear to be in there sober is nothing short of amazing.
Kettering does have some good pubs but club wise forget it, (unless you are going for the completely mashed sh@g a h@g type night).

Yup, as Nigel says its just an interesting pub. Not your normal bland types in there. Some weird and wonderful dress-sense, hairstyles etc. Carpet thats been there for years ... a bit mucky ... you know the sort
